Right up here in my neck of the woods mister.

The beginning of the Kancamagus Highway is only about 35 or 40 minutes from my house.

Yesterday morning I had about 31 or 32 degrees so if there was any precipitation it would have been very interesting.

My Local Pest Control Department has followed the recommendation of a neighbor which is to fill a bucket about half full with water, cover the surface with black oil sunflower seeds, sit back and wait. Best rodent control we've found yet.

Of course we have several long skinny tubes that make small pieces of metal fly around very very fast. Target practice is fun.

I've Googled the heck out of pest control and I thought I'd seen every example of mouse traps made, but that is a new one on me!

We do on occasion run a 2 person route around the house and buildings and hurl little round balls and tapered chucks of lead.  Somedays we brag and others it is as though they have some communication system...,

The Kancamagus?  Brings back fond and lost memories…

There once was a Great Stone Guy,

perched up on the mountain real high.

His craggy old face

was kept in its place,

till the epoxy decided to fly.

I had the pleasure of seeing that when I was a wee lad which you can imagine was more than a month of Sundays ago. I was out poking around in the area maybe 6 or 8 years ago now? What they give you to look at is a sort of old man on a stick, in a way.

Apparently their misguided attempts to stabilize him with adhesives contributed to his untimely collapse.  A sad day, indeed!

Freeze thaw freeze thaw freeze thaw...

To be honest I think the only thing that was misguided about the attempts to keep the Old Man of the Mountain in place was the fact that there was really nothing we could do given the technology we had available at the time.

Locals have known for a century or so that it was in imminent danger of falling. We just happened to be the unlucky generation that gets to talk about it..

Maybe we accelerated it. Maybe we didn't. Maybe we slowed it down. Maybe we didn't. There's really no way to know for sure either one way or the other.

"Live" traps perhaps... but the large rat snap traps... no problem.  Set them and sprinkle a little black sunflower seed around and...

Might tempt them with some treats but there's so many acorns covering the ground they aren't that hungry or desperate.

True that.  We’ll never know.  I admit I do have a certain bias against interventions in these things due to the laws of unintended consequences.  I had heard the epoxy acted in ways not anticipated with respect to retaining water.  Can’t blame them for trying, I suppose…

He was awesome while he lasted though; on this I’m confident we can agree.

Ground covered in leaves and acorns could also be covered in chipmunks and I'm not sure I'd see them.  Just a blur....  Just leaf movement!

No worries. Just switch to larger destructive devices.

The folly of humans to think they could glue a mountain together!

Next thing they'll try to put a big cork in a volcano!

Or fix the San Andreas with a bunch of come-alongs.

Well if one can move the world with a big enough lever, one should be able to strap tie that fault together with a big enough come-along.

Also:  I think you might be needed down on La Palma, and remember to bring that cork!

We can do this!  Lolz.
