I've Googled the heck out of pest control and I thought I'd seen every example of mouse traps made, but that is a new one on me! We do on occasion run a 2 person route around the house and buildings and hurl little round balls and tapered chucks of lead. I had the pleasure of seeing that when I was a wee lad which you can imagine was more than a month of Sundays ago. I was out poking around in the area maybe 6 or 8 years ago now? To be honest I think the only thing that was misguided about the attempts to keep the Old Man of the Mountain in place was the fact that there was really nothing we could do given the technology we had available at the time. Locals have known for a century or so that it was in imminent danger of falling. We just happened to be the unlucky generation that gets to talk about it.. Maybe we accelerated it. Maybe we didn't. We’ll never know. I admit I do have a certain bias against interventions in these things due to the laws of unintended consequences. I had heard the epoxy acted in ways not anticipated with respect to retaining water.
