ClassicTractorProfessor 5,314 #1 Posted October 17, 2021 With winter being right around the corner, it's going to be too cold and dark after work to work on many projects around here, but I know me well enough to know that I would go nuts not being able to tinker on something. So this weekend was spent cleaning out a corner in the basement and setting up a work area. Can't work on large projects down here, but I've got a couple Maytag 92s and a 19 that need to rebuilt, as well as tackling the 8 speed out of Ray's C141. No I sold it back a little over a year ago. This picture does not include the space to the left with the door... but the shop is truly massive. What type personality are you there, @kpinnc... that shop is a little too clean for me...? The sheetrock is nasty... old age and roof leaks (fixed). I'm not ripping down the old rock, putting 3/8 plywood over top of it. There's a lot of 5h1t in that shop so it's kinda slow going. Have to move everything from one side to the other and then back again. All the other rooms are full of crap too, so I can't just empty out the room. There's no place to put any of it! And I've scrapped TONS of stuff already! (made $1300 on copper alone! ) Also redoing all of the electrical wiring, been skeert of that for years (decades actually!) Our basement workshop is awesome in the colder times.... 'Course this is Maine so that's literally all of 1/2 the year. We've been utilizing the basement so much I've started setting up shop tools there (20T press, drill press etc) and using the outdoor workshop for more like a storage facility. This is all being done with MC armored cable, 12 gauge. The outlet below the left speaker is a dedicated 20A outlet for the radial arm saw to the left (off screen). That circuit breaker box by the flag is going away, no longer needed. The switch / outlet just below and to the left of the CB box is another 20A circuit that powers the 'Plugmold' strip (scavenged, free) and also powers the stereo (picked from the trash, works GREAT after repairing the power switch!) and lighting, and some outlets that will be installed on the opposite wall where there is another workbench. The switch is a 30A rated part (scavenged from a factory re-wiring job, along with the expensive 20A outlets). I'm going to install a quad outlet box in the center of the ceiling for the LED lighting. Also off screen to the right is another dedicated 20A outlet for the 1954 antique IT&T Coolerator A/C unit that still works perfectly! I did do a 'restoration' on it this past Spring, rewired and fixed a few things on it. The shelf with the speakers is half of a bi-fold closet door that I got at a garage sale (brand new!) for a buck. I'll use the other half above the bench on the other wall. The shelf brackets came out of a barn that was being torn down. The plywood was all 'scavenged' from shipping pallets. It was used as a protective top cover on the product. I've got about 30 sheets. Odd size, 40-1/2 x 47-1/2 but I've got more than enough to do the job even though I have to cut each piece to fit the studding (which isn't all exactly on 16" centers anyway!), so there is some waste, but who cares? It was FREE! Yes, I'm a scavenger... the only thing that I've had to buy for this so far is the wire (which ain't cheap anymore!) and the MC connectors, the LED strip lights (Horror Fright, on sale), and the paint. Oh, by the way, the $700 Wilton bench vice was a freebie along with one of the bench grinders. Gift from a friend who was moving to senior housing. The other bench grinder was a trash pick and only needed a new power switch. When I'm finished plywooding the walls and ceiling I'll also paint them all white like the back of the bench. Yes, it's a mess, but like I mentioned earlier there isn't a lot of room in this shop. When I'm finished I'll clean it all up, I promise! Check out the coloring on the right speaker grill. That is WHITE! I think the coloration is an effect from the strobe rate of the LED lighting and the camera. Weird Moire pattern, and in color too! Thought I was having a 'flashback' or it might be the 60's all over again! By the way, those speakers were a new in the box garage sale find for $10.00 They were 'in wall' mounts, but I built the boxes out of 're-purposed' antique wood. They are 2-way and the midrange was weak so I put some better mid-range drivers in those computer speaker boxes stacked on top. They sound GREAT! 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Great receiver. Don’t see too many Lafayette ones left. Yes the Wilton “bullet” vises are the most expensive vises around. Even though literally millions were made they command a premium are are highly sought after. Perhaps the most durable , strongest, most well designed common vise ever manufactured.
