What's your favorite thing about WH tractors?

Old Quality and simplicity so even here in Belgium where parts are super rare, they still can be fixed with stuff from other machinery. The big problem with Bolens, Cub Cadet, sears/roper,... that you can't find those specific parts.

On the flip side, what's the worst thing about Wheel Horse tractors. The worst thing for me is, I don't have enough of them.

So many different models, shapes and sizes.  You have to have at least one of each.

@echris love the common sense , practicality ,build set up , that's from the  post war  era ,virtually everything was made to last and reflect  Americas design and build capability . hardly a day  goes by that i don't notice another  build set up area , that was designed not to fail . what a concept , pete

I have that same problem with motors. I buy a motor for parts, dissect it, and determine it can be rebuilt fairly easily. I guess that's why I have a shelf full of motors.

That was back 15 or 20 years ago.

For the most part the engineering is very good, simple, basic and, as mentioned many times, easy to work on. That's not to say they're perfect and couldn't benefit from an improvement or two.

That's what those holes are for!  Back in the 60's, my Father never noticed the hole on the mid hitch. There was a piece of twine on the 604 that he used to keep the latch closed. and another piece to keep the latch up when the snowplow was on.

Haha, new neighbors moved in next door a few months ago. They have about 1/2 acre to mow. They started out with an electric push mower and have moved up to a gas powered push mower. I've mentioned they might consider a small tractor since our yards are a bit hilly.

I've also struggled to not say, "Would you just let me help you buy a freakin' WH?"

While working on the left rear hub area today I looked at the rear attachment point...... no wonder I never noticed the pin holes...... they were not there on mine!! Now, though, I have the left side drilled, will do the right side tomorrow.

Yeah but... do you have the time to maintain another machine?  Cuz that's what would happen.  EChris, chief neighborhood mechanic.

 

Fortunately in my neighborhood most of the men are either very mechanically inclined or have enough money to hire a lawn service.

 

The widder lady next door gets my help, I don't mind, usually easy jobs.

 

But, the guy that moved in to dead Harry's old house is somewhat of a dumbazz.  He owns a construction company, does good work... on HOUSES.

He's got a commercial ZT mower.  When he's out chopping down the weeds that he lets get too tall, he just runs over any branches.  You should hear it... pitiful.

Already had to replace one bent spindle. (well, not him, but one of his employees)
