What did I just bring home?

Recommended Posts

I know its a Wheel Horse. I know the engine is not the original. I'm new to red tractors. I've had and restored several of the older Sears Suburbans. This one found it's way to me and all the stickers have been painted over. The tires are dry and cracked but the engine and mower deck turn so I'm just wondering...

Any Ideas about what this thing is?

and what engine was on it originally?

the starter spins if I jump it but doesn't engage the flywheel. ( probably why they quit using it)  any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

I don't really want to just get it running to use it as is. I'd rather restore it or pass it on to someone else that will...

It has a M12 know, had a K-series originally or a tecumsh

It is a short-frame, a 6speed, headlights. for sure a higher-end model

typical problem here on Kohlers, the gear on the starter is stuck. take the front cover (engine shroud) off and see if the gear moves free on the shaft.(It should move in or out when you turn it) Got away with just some lube on that shaft.

Agreed, when I bought my '89 310, the starter worked but was really noisy. A quick cleaning and a drop or two of light machine oil on the shaft and she's been fine since.

Interesting retrofit of a Magnum to an older Charger?

Look for an I'D' plate on the panel under the steering wheel. I'm going to say a Raider with a Magnum transplant

It might be a 1967 model 867. This is mine, has the same decals.

I've got this. i thought it might be a serial number. is there more information under the paint if i could get it off without damaging what's underneath?

Tractor looks like a long frame. Look at the distance comparison to the front wheels to the front of the decks

ive got an hh120 for it if that's an option. I'd kind of like it to be a little more like it was originally...

I love that style...  Nothing wrong with having a Franken Horse and Magnums are good running engines.

I was going to say it looks almost like my 69 Raider 12.

Wet a cloth with lacquer thinner and you can gently wipe that medal plate and decal off

There should be a "Name" decal on the metal part under the "six speed" decal, if its still there

I said it because in my raider, the kohler M12 looks a lot less cramped in there.

But haven't seen a short frame in person. very rare over here.

:WRS:

:text-coolphotos:        The serial number on your :wh: indicates it is a 1969 Raider Model 1-6041. As usual, @gwest_ca was spot on.  :handgestures-thumbupleft:

so apparently this is an early Raider 10.

( thanks everyone for your resourcefulness)

That means it probably had a Techumseh on it right?

I have one of those😎

I would agree on the early Raider, but I don't think I would put a techy back in there over a good running kohler!

I did just that and confirmed the 1-6041 underneath the red paint.

I should have started by saying :text-welcomeconfetti:  to  :rs: earlier.  A good running magnum may help you to get it passed on to someone or you may like it for yourself.  Just saying.  :confusion-shrug:

I meant the magnum sitting in it. Doesn't look bad at all in that chassis.
