Ifixoldjunk 778 #1 Posted October 15, 2021 picked up a 94 Jeep Wrangler recently. More or less just a toy to tinker with. Probably won’t ever see much serious driving. It has a inline 6 with plenty of power so I’m hoping to make it my new tractor retriever. My question is have any of you had experience with these old Jeeps? I’ve already rust proofed the frame with rust oleum black. No serious rot anywhere. Little pin holes in the bottom of the frame rails, but after nearing on 30 years in the rust belt it’s still cleaner than most. It probably will spend winters in my driveway on plow duty. Skwerl58 704 #5 Posted October 15, 2021 The inline six 4.0 is as bulletproof as any engine. They run great if maintained. There are plenty of the 4.0 still running with well over 200000 miles. peter lena 8,634 #6 Posted October 15, 2021 @Ifixoldjunk agree with others on preventive maintenance, my son has jeeps , regularly uses an open gear oil spray to feed the metal , never letting anything dry out , for rustproofing , lives above Burlington vt . emphasis on body seaming , wheel well arches , leaf springs .recently getting ready for the freeze . between ice and mud roads , the lubricant stops rust , also mineral oil sprays it thoroughly . change out your diff oils , use magnetic drain plugs. lot of jeep gear units are made by fiat , and fail a lot , synthetic gear oil and keep it fresh . good luck with it , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It is old enough it still has a carburetor and it can be a bit finicky but they love that thing. With regard to sticks, if I buy a vehicle and a stick is available that’s what we get. My whole family can drive a stick including my 20 year old daughter. The new automatics are much faster and smoother than a stick but I like being able to dictate what gear the vehicle is in. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
