Paw Paw's Charger and leaf vacuum

Recommended Posts

Took the Charger home today. Happy to say it worked like a champ!

Now to get back to finishing the 523!

I'll have to get some of it all together. As many as I took, I got nothing of the whole thing with the hoses hooked up like a big dummy.

Just curious if you've thought about 'back pressure'?

Is this the only air vent on the container?

I guess that's a screen of some sort over the hole?

I wonder how much more suction you would get with a bigger vent...

Actually that is the plexiglass window that allows you to see when it's full. It's just really dusty in that pic.

Sorry for the lack of detail. I really wish I had better pics of the dump bin. I'll get some next week if I remember.

The entire back door (about 3x4 feet) is double walled with the inner being mesh. The air is ducted out the bottom of the door towards the ground. Basically the entire door is one big vent on the bottom. In all seriousness, this thing will pick gravel up off the ground even with the deck disengaged. I had to go bigger on the pulleys to bring the RPMs down to about 4K. The impeller turns slightly faster than the engine, because I know my FIL rarely runs his old Kohlers above about 3/4 throttle. He's not big on letting them idle, but babies them quite a bit.

In my son's bedroom, it's not a bad idea. Legos or HotWheels: that place is a freaking gauntlet. I think Legos are just leftover parts from a fragmentary weapon. They can damage bare feet like broken glass. Hot Wheels are just micro ice skates.

I never knew my children's room could be so dangerous!

I love it.  Your engineering work is fantastic.  I can't wait for you finish your mods to that Exmark deck now that this project is done.

Thank you sir! That deck, and my 60, are front and center as soon as the 523 is done.

We need to do a thread on deck fabrication- pros, cons, and tips and testing!

Yes and no. More accurate to say "adapted" from other stuff. The bin is from a Kubota zero turn. I used it for years, but not mounted on a trailer, so that part is my work. I just don't need leaf pickup anymore, so I made it to work with the Charger.

Happy to report that my FIL got up 27 loads of leaves with zero failures.

"I love it when a plan comes together!"

Now he wants to make a long hose adapter to clean out the roof gutters...

Showing both my age and maturity level....

Lord I apologize!

That being said- all of us know EXACTLY what I was talking about! All my t-shirts are red around the collar, and my wife threatens my life when her laundry gets a little pink after my laundry, or it smells like motor oil!

Why ?… no trees ?… I spent a ton of money getting 10 White Oaks cut down last May. Had to evict a momma coon and 2 babies.
Anyways now I get up my neighbors leaves…:ranting:

All these and more come from Sherwood Forest next door.

Look closely in the stable with the two doors flung open… a :wh: in there !

Notice no leaves fell near the stable !

I had those off-color tractors before I discovered :wh:‘s, and besides, I need some cut-rate equipment to do menial tasks while I save the thoroughbred’s for the Triple Crown !

That describes my thoughts exactly. Nothing better for me than to come back to my shop, and see HellHorse sitting there, looking awesome. I want it to be around for another 60 years, so doing all the work with it just seems... wrong...

With all possible due respect I absolutely disagree.

We have Wheelhorse tractors because they WORK.

No inferior "other brands" here.

Get em.  Restore em. Put them to work.
