Not much going on, and it's hard to get a good pic of paint in the dark.

 

That being said, this turned out pretty good for a rattle can job!

I listened this time. Wet sanded Sunday and let it sit for 48 hours so as not to reactivate the first coat. Turned out better than I hoped!

 

Still mocking up the leaf vacuum. Pulleys will be swapped out later. It will run from the PTO like the factory vac, but with a few tweaks.

Got some more done today. Bearing/ impeller support doo-dad finished, all bolted up. Added a belt tensioner. Verified the seat pan opens fully still, and added a few more parts.

 

Taking it home Saturday, so I got get rolling!

Didn't get as much done today. Work was a monster, and I have to work again tonight on a maintenance event.

 

But I did get a little done. Rear fender, and the rest of the blower painted and installed. It looks like it's right behind the driver, but it's way over by the right wheel. Also cleaned the original light covers and shot them with clear gloss. Good enough for a worker.

...Though I must admit I've never thought of it as engineering. I just get an idea in my noggin and piece it together as I go. Works out sometimes, and sometimes I get to tear down and start over. In all honesty I can say I enjoy fabbing stuff up as much as anything. That is part of the reason none of my tractors are original. The other reason is just a lack of options down here in NC.

The Ole Ball N Chain and I enjoy building them quite a bit.

Had an idea tonight about the headlights. I've used high power LEDs on others, but don't have any to spare at the moment. So I got LEDs, but just the regular ones at the parts store. I knew these had LEDs on both sides of the bulb, so they would basically waste half the light in a standard bezel.

 

Then I remembered that I had some aluminum tape that was pretty reflective and sticks forever... Made a nice reflector on the standard bezel, so the backside LEDs contribute to the forward beam. They turned out really bright! Not bad for a $6 set of bulbs.

 

I also PORed the bottom of the deck. One more thing done.

Nice idea on that tape. 

On Trina's 867 Pigpen tractor we have a front weight bracket sprayed bright copper color. While we had that paint out she coated the inside of the headlamp bezel. 

I installed inexpensive LED bulbs at that point too. 

 

Certainly made a good amount of difference.

Fabbed up a belt guard tonight. Did alot today, but not much to show. 

 

Welding sheet metal is tougher than I thought it would be. But it turned out decent.

No sir, but I'm gonna get one. I had old Toro groundsmaster guards that I cut up and welded 3 pieces together.

I guess I got lucky in the sense that there wasn't anything much to fix on this one. Just a boat load of fabrication.

Finally got the seat on. I had to modify an old 520-H seat plate to make the seat flip up. Basically I just mounted it upside down. I had to fab a support for the pivot bolts as low as possible, but it works great. This was the only way to fully raise the fender pan with the blower mounted.

 

Didn't get to take it home today. Gonna try again tomorrow. All that is left is the last of the wiring.

@kpinnc nice job on that ! loving the detailing !, your pillow block and flange bearing set up , is the bombproof way to go , done many of  those conversions on conveyor drive set ups , lucas grease , no noise or failures . rear seat springs , i added a heavy one at that closest center mount fender hole , worked so well , have it on my 3 horses . always looking for a way to improve function , looks like you are in the same zone . pete

I didn't take it home today, but it did go for a drive! 

 

Tilt seat did the trick. No problems opening the fender up now. Also gotta go try blower belt #3... Stupid B belt was too short. If could go on, but is too tight.

Still gotta cut the trailer tongue down a bit, and the choke cable is giving me a fit. Also gotta wait until it goes home to put on the hoses. I didn't bring those with the tractor.

 

And last, I had to go with a digital voltmeter. Ampmeters are useless for my purposes. A little new with the old...
