Eaton 1100 - forward vs backward torque

Recommended Posts

Does a tractor with an Eaton 1100 hydro have better pulling capability in forward vs reverse?  I've done well dragging some logs around this weekend off a back hook.  I'm wondering if a front hook is any stronger.

I don't think it matters John.     I have three eaton 1100s and they will all spin the tires in forward and reverse when attached to a stump.

Traction is the limiting factor in the pulling ability of most of these tractors.

And yes, I have plenty of weight on the rears.IMG_6697.JPG.e7842b9ddcbb14ba9d844733de1fbed0.JPG

The final drive ratio is the same in both directions and I would assume the pump/motor combination puts out the same amount of torque in either direction.  I would expect the drive train to work equally in either direction.

Traction variations due to how the load is hooked to the tractor will make a difference.

It has always seemed to me that forward bite as a result of weight distribution is a bit stronger than reverse bite.  That might just be my set ups.  If I had weight stacked like Ed, I doubt it would matter which way the wheels are turning. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Agree Kev, front attachment never has max weight on the rears.  You never see pullers going down the track backwards.   As pullers know, the elevation of the tractor attachment point also controls the weight in the rear tires and influences  traction.    High rear attachment point creating a wheelie puts 100% of the tractor weight on the rears.       Low rear attachment puts more weight on the fronts and less on the rears.

Of course, all this has nothing to do with the forward/reverse torque output of the 1100 tranny.

That would be interesting... or maybe boring to watch.
