I just threw out one of Mr K's 1/2 dozen crock pots to make room to store the Pressure pot. I pressure cooked the meat for 30 minutes in a cup of water. One cup of liquid is the minimum required in the Instant Pot. Then poured off most of the water and added a jar of brown gravey with onions. Yeah, I cheat...It's hard to get any gravey from deer meat. Cooked this for 15 minutes on low crock pot setting.

I might be able to get away with getting rid of one her dozen crocks if it does. I was thinking of some beef broth thickened abit for gravy.
rjg854 11,361 #153 Posted January 4, 2022 That's the nice part about the Instapot, it pressure cooks, slow cooks, and it even does a few other things that I don't know how to use yet. That three quart size is the perfect size for the two of us. She has one huge one that's just too big for the meals we make.

Jeff-C175 7,202 #156 Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) OK, this explains the mystery I've been having past couple weeks why the bird feeder has been licked clean empty! Can't see it in the pic really, but he's deep tongue kissing that feeder! Better focus, but smaller: Something wrong with his right rear leg. May have had an encounter with an automobile at some point. I don't think his left rack is actually broken, it looks stunted rather for some reason. Have heard that when a buck is injured, it will stunt the opposite side antler somehow. Don't know if that's true? anyone know if there's any truth to that story ? Yep, that 'sheds' some light on it! I got to thinking and trying to remember, but this may be the same buck that I saw a couple years ago because that one also had a deformity on the left side, and as I recall, a similar limp. I found this to be weird! : Quote Some deer - called hermaphrodites or pseudo-hermaphrodites - may have reproductive organs of both sexes, and may outwardly appear to be antlered does. Wow... no further comment on this one!

Pullstart 62,867 #160 Posted January 17, 2022 Saw a good size monster a couple times today out cutting wood. He had a couple small buddies with him. The woods they were in follow a creek bed. They have perfect cover. IMG_3467.MOV IMG_3468.MOV
Ed Kennell 38,173 #161 Posted January 17, 2022 Mrs K spent last week in Ocean City, Md. with her card club friends. Good time for me to work on this years deer mount. Here's a quick look at the 40 hour process. 1. thaw out frozen cape and flesh off all bits of meat , sew up arrow holes, rub preservative into the hide. A three edged leather needle and waxed cord is used for sewing raw hides. I turn the form upsidedown until I get the cape in place and fastened with clamps. Then turn it over an begin the sewing down the back of the neck using a baseball stich. Positioning the ears. Positioning and pinning the eyes and getting the lashes and every guard hair in position. All low areas need to be pinned as the hide will shrink as it dries and tend to pull these low areas away from the form. Finally, trim off the excess hide and fasten to the back side of the form. Now, just let it dry slowly in a cool place to minimize shrinkage. About 2 months. Then all pins and support removed and some filling with bees wax aroung eyes and mouth as required. 1 3

Jeff-C175 7,202 #170 Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) Another buck showed up to day to try and lick the bird feeder clean. He is a little smaller than that other one and couldn't reach it. These were taken through a window screen, my phone camera seems to have 'issues' with that. Looks like he was gettin' ready to charge at the red cape ! Pullstart 62,867 #171 Posted January 19, 2022 My Uncle put a deposit on a free range ranch in Missouri for next fall for us. They have some QDM area for sure! This 26 pointer scored 218”. Unreal! I think I’d freak out and shank the tree next to him!

Oh so am I This is what I normally kill (2021 buck) This is the one time I got lucky in 2011 and shot one that scored 148 2/8, that's the one that's on my wall This one was killed by a neighbor this year, I don't remember exactly what it scored, but it was in the 180's. I had two random trail cam pictures of him in the middle of the night just traveling through.
