Jeff-C175 7,202 #2 Posted October 6, 2021 Yes, there is a charging system. How old is the battery Sarge? @staffsargaent
pfrederi 17,741 #3 Posted October 6, 2021 If you have a multi-meter hook it up to the battery. Should read about 12.6 volts . Start engine move it up to almost full throttle voltage should be about 14.
jtrosp1980 89 #4 Posted October 6, 2021 I believe you should have a voltage regulator by the steering wheel
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,050 #5 Posted October 6, 2021 A 1996 416 should have an Onan twin cylinder engine so the voltage regulator should be in the housing that covers the flywheel. This is a small unit and located here for the cooling provided by the engine fan.
lynnmor 7,313 #6 Posted October 6, 2021 Download the Onan Service Manual here. The testing procedure is on page 8-5.

pfrederi 17,741 #8 Posted October 7, 2021 A bad battery will not charge well.. have you checked voltage engine off and engine running. I would do that first before anything else. As Gary pointed out it is the air shroud (blower housing)

Staffsargeant 4 #10 Posted October 12, 2021 ! am looking to buy a Volt Reg for a 1996 WH 416-8. My local dealer wants $160.00 for one. Anybody have one cheaper??
Handy Don 12,243 #11 Posted October 12, 2021 I got one for, I think, under $20 (?) on the jungle site. People have mentioned they sometimes fail but mine hasn't yet and if it does, I'll do another. Only glitch was the mounting screw didn't come with it and the hole in the body was metric threaded. I measured the hole, retapped with a standard NC thread tap and found a screw in my bin. All good.
Staffsargeant 4 #12 Posted October 12, 2021 I would like to thank everyone who helped with my elec problem. I found the part for $40.00. Saved $120.00 that my WH dealer wanted to over charge me. 1

I've also had good luck with the aftermarket regulators.
