HarleyFX 1 #1 Posted October 4, 2021 I had to replace an axle in a Charger 10 and now i have a gap of about 1/2" of the cases coming together. I have had it apart many times and can't see what is holding them apart. Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Randy '
rmaynard 15,594 #2 Posted October 4, 2021 Did you remove anything other than the differential? If so it would seem to me that one of the shafts did not seat into the bearing.
pfrederi 17,866 #3 Posted October 4, 2021 There re 2 short aligning pins that can be tricky to get in there respective holes without snagging the gasket More important did you put the differential in the correct direction. long side of differential and nuts go up into the wide section of the tranny housing.

Made that mistake once, still would shut, put the tranny back under the horse, filled it up with fluid. Then I went to bed, but I couldn't sleep! hahah First thing in the morning was going trough the trouble to turn the diff around around. And good I did because it was slightly hitting. stevasaurus 22,858 #5 Posted October 4, 2021 1st thing is you need the shallow side down. It sounds like one of the shafts is not going into the bearing on the other side. You need to just drink a beer or two and wiggle the case a little and get lucky. Seriously!! Actually, some pictures of what you have there might point out to us what is wrong...if something stands out. 1 1 1 1

No I didn't even remove the differential from one half, I just replaced the bad axle, I can line up all the shafts to theirs bearings but there is something still interfering. Both the axles are the same size and the aligning pins still have an air gap between them. Thanks

I replaced the bad axle with the same size that was damaged. In my parts manual for a Charger 10 there is one one part number for both axles Part #5961 and it calls for 2. Both axles are the same. The Charger 12 and Bronco 14 each had 2 different axles.
