1277 Brake pedal not returning

Recommended Posts

Brake pedal not returning to disengage position. Pedal moves freely. Is there a spring inside the frame or internal to the transmission?

There should be a large spring on the out side that hooks up to brake  lever and transmission.

The 1277 is a hydro (automatic) transmission and has no brakes other than the transmission. On page 9, item 176 is called a brake return spring and in conjunction with cam plate 178 will return the transmission to neutral which functions as a brake to stop the tractor.

Spring is inside the tunnel on the hydro linkage. It is probably broken and a bear to get to with out removing all the linkage. You can rig up an external return spring on the outside of the tractor.

I found the #6135 spring broken. Due to rust and years of use.

I also need but dont see it in the breakdown diagrams....the PTO pressure pin I guess one could call it, it's the pin that goes in the center of the cone, has a slot in it for the control rod and the cotter pin locks it in. Newer style wont work as there is no slot in it.

@Moonshine*Connoisseur do you have a hardware store near by ? in the small drawer pull out section , bring in your old broken pin and match it up , i also lubricate anything related that will have to move at some point , pete

It is the pin that goes into the bearing on the pto cone. It is held in place by a snap ring. This is a part that wont be found at any hardware store, I can guarantee that.

I have one coming,  thank you to everyone !  These fun projects I get myself into.  This 1277 is a junkyard save. It made it into the yard, a phone call was made and I came to the rescue.

Nice save! I hope when you finish up getting it going, it runs another 40 years!
