After TSC stopped carrying Valspar, I expected the replacement to be decent at least. Oh well, my bad...

I got stuck with it when fixing up my FILs Charger. Rust-Oleum was scarce, so I had to improvise. Duplicolor was all I could find towards the end of that project. I'm just glad the sheetmetal was done with Rust-Oleum first...

We buy almost all of our paint online nowadays.

Trina's never even seen duplicolor.

The last time I can remember seeing it was the automotive touch up racks of the popular colors they used to be in parts stores in decades past.

I don't think I've used that brand in at least 20 years now and that would have been a VERY different formula in comparison to today's.

No Eric,  It's when I haven't been happy with a coat, and gone back to wet sand and either apply color or clear after a few days. I have been going a week out on these now to avoid.  

The "craze" usually starts where the surface has been broken with sanding exposing solvents under, if that makes sense. this is with paint I figured to be cured, that isn't soft.

Understandable.  

 

Just an FYI....

My local Paint Department aka BBT and I find the cured time of spray cans to be around 6 to 8 WEEKS.  

 

I'm not sure what waiting time to offer on a sanded surface. 

You'd figure it wouldn't matter.

You would think...

 

I believe that paint cures from the surface down, and under the surface takes longer to cure because it's not exposed to the air.  When you wet sand and break the cured skin, you need to wait even longer before recoating.  Break the skin and 'reset the clock' for another week.

 

As you said Eric, if you recoat within a half hour it will be fine, but any longer than that you'll have problems if you don't wait long enough.

 

I don't even consider recoating for at least a week.

Wednesday was 3 days since I painted the hood gray… painted the grille and the headlight bezels today… Rustoleum Satin Black.

 

Clean lines… Terrys decals go on tomorrow…

 

Then I couldn’t resist… had to take her for a spin…

 

Check out those Ags roaring on that pavement… Ya-uh !

Tonight I put on a few more decals, put in and wired the 6000k LED cool white headlights, installed the hood, and put on the hood latch hooks.

I still have the decals to do that go on the sides of the hood, also have to get 2 more of the rubber hood latches as mine are cracked.

Also am waiting on new shifter knobs and a brake lever rubber sleeve from Lowell, and a service/ air cleaner decal from Terry… After those things I think the 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 will be done…

 

I do believe the decal on the front of the hood is a little crooked…

Wonder if I pulled the front decal off to try to redo it, it would pull the paint off ?

 

I know I would have to get a new decal…

 

It just seems too noticeable to me…
