If you really want to make the rims smoother I would suggest getting them sandblasted first, then apply putty or filler which can be used with powdercoating. And lastly get them powdercoated. Should be good as new..

The bead sealer goes on as somewhat a liquid but then dries but does not harden. It's messy and you'll get it all over everything but once it sets it peels right off.

Moisture will get in around the valve stim of a tube.don't think load or unloaded will make any difference. As long as the bead stays sealed it can't get in a tubles.

Lee certainly has a valid point worth considering.  

 

Even if you don't run the tractor in the rain snow mud it still could get condensation in there.

Tried to call the powder coat shop today… left message … no call back yet…

But there’s still plenty to do on the Work Horse. Soooo…

I put the new transmission input shaft seal in, and just for a little extra insurance I put some RTV gasket sealer around the shaft hole where it recesses in to receive the seal. It was rated for differential work. Let’s hope for no leak this time. I put it in backwards like @WHX?? said he has done before.

Also went ahead and poured about 1/2 qt. of 80-90 gear oil in her. I’ll wait and top it off in a day or so to let that RTV sealer set up a little.

Spoke to Lowell at Wheel Horse Parts and More about ordering one of his rock shaft kits… the Work Horse has the tube for the lift cable but nothing else.

Figured it would be easier to order his complete kit instead of hunting one down and then having to round up the cable and other parts of it.

Let him know you have the tube and he'll do the kit for all the rest of the parts. Be SURE to tell him the tractor model so you get the right bits.

Yeah, it's a full on frame- off restore! Looks great!

Restorations don't mean maintenance stops for me. Some of the work needed can wait until next service. I'm always tinkering on my tractors now. Still fixing things on stuff that was restored.

 

Sometimes you have to "sleep on" an issue to figure out the best fix.

Works for me!  One time I was trying to figure something out and went to bed.  Woke up at 3AM after dreaming up a solution and went out to the shop to work on it before I forgot!  You know how dreams are!

Check the tube you have the one on my 520 was so rusted I ordered the complete kit. I got it opened up but didn't want to destroy a new cable in that rusted tube.
