Either of first two would look great! Go with what you want!!!

Personal preference but I prefer satin to gloss… just seems more fitting for a tractor… :eusa-think: But again go with your preference…

Gonna look great!

I like the pewter or light gray...

But it's your machine, and if you like it, it's all that matters!

The only foothold into the "correct" red for other tractors is Mike Martino's book that said Mr. Pond always tried to get his paint as close to IH red as possible. Otherwise there were multiple "WH RED" versions over the years.

There were at least two distinct grays for the Work Horse line, and no reason not to expect more.

Paint it like you want it, and enjoy!

Incase you ain't figured out... With our distinctive line up of Horses of a different color up here...

This is the line I'd go with.

As to those bearings.

Bought em.

Like em.

They work well. Roll smooth. No grease. No mess.

I can't speak to the longevity of them yet having only just recently installed them.

But really. Even if they only last a short time, they're ridiculously easy to pop in n out.

Got a question… I seen in the 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 manual, a transmission input pulley that had a fan built with it like the pic shows. Is the 8speed transmission supposed to have a cooling fan ?

The color pic is a pulley with built in fan.

Nope.

But as far back as 1965, WH used the same casts for both hydros and 8 speeds. Probably cheaper.

I think it's actually just a little smaller in diameter than the later pullies, so it may make your groundspeed just a little better.

Highly likely they're the same for cost and efficiency reasons.

Agreed.

Pulley size as I understand it:

Up to 1967 the transmission had a 4" pulley. After 1967 it had a 6" pulley.

As far as I know ALL the 8 speeds through the end of production were the same.

The difference in pulley size later on was in the engine pulley.

Early ones were all 2".

1967 went to 4".

At some point in time the hydros went to ((??)) 5".

That may have been right in 67 but I'm not sure.

You really want some go-fast fun put a hydro front pulley with an old transmission pulley. 😂

You talking about this one?

It's somewhere here on the forum.

The GT14 had a big 6" engine pulley #100390, Is it used on anything else?

I fired up the Work Horse on post # 650, and the video doesn’t show it, but it idles good, runs wide open good, intermediate throttle good, but…

when I push the throttle up from idle it seems to have a hesitation going to full throttle and spits a few droplets of gas back up through the top of the carb.

Any idea what would cause such a thing ?

The 1980-ish C series.  I've got a 125 and a 175 and they both use the same bearing.  Not sure what your machine uses, but these may in fact fit.

If you do use these, pop one of the seals, wipe out the vaseline that's in them, and put some GOOD grease in.

Leave the inner seal out and fill the hub with grease, or.....

leave both seals in place, which is what I did this time and I'm going to see how much life I get out of them without having to fill the wheel hub with grease... such a waste...

I bought a 10 pack of these:

But they're also available as a 'kit' of four with some shims, E-clips, and vinyl boots:

I received my new wheel bearings for the Work Horse today… thanks @Jeff-C175 for the information on these.

I believe I’m gonna try running them with both bearing seals in place and see how they do.

I'm doing the same, but I HIGHLY recommend popping the seals, wiping out the vaseline and replacing it with REAL grease.

You'll find a small smear of grease on one side only so once you ID which side you only need to pop one seal.

Would you flush the bearing with brake cleaner, then blow dry, to get all the Vaseline out ?

I dunno...  I didn't.  I used q-tips and got almost all of it out.  There's very little in them.

Or just pop both inner seals and use the grease zerks on the wheels.

Edit: I didn't read back far enough. My bad. :hide:

Uses a ton of grease!  Actually a waste of grease IMO.

And it's messy, at least for a trailer queen, but even for a worker it can hold dirt.

At the speeds those bearings roll I'm sure that repacking with real grease and reinstalling the seal will be fine... I'll find out!

That is true. And repacking does work very well. I've done it many times myself. Mule drive bearings get that treatment here often.
