Lee1977 6,673 #626 Posted January 22, 2022 (edited) Installing a new belt it may need to be run a little before it behaves as it should even with everything set right, the belt guard needs to be in place before it works as it should. Horse Newbie 7,075 #628 Posted January 22, 2022 Is this the wire stud for the magneto on the twin Briggs ? There is a blue wire that goes to the magneto. I assume it is this blue wire because: a. It’s the only blue wire that I don’t have hooked to something. and b. It is zip tied to the same wire that goes to the two prong socket end that goes to the stator. Both of these are near each other. Does it conveniently reach the stud on the magneto? I could go out and look at my pressure washer (same engine) but not sure that would help... I'll head out in a little bit. Bill D 1,926 #631 Posted January 23, 2022 The blue wire is the kill wire for the mag. The belt cover doesn't have to be on for the clutch to work correctly on the 300/400 series 8 speeds, or the Work Horse series. There is a belt brake bolted to the hood stand. Belt cover should be on for safety.

Horse Newbie 7,075 #634 Posted January 23, 2022 My fuse holder has a 30 amp fuse… book says it should be a 15 amp. Why would the PO put a 30 amp in there ? I’m gonna go back to a 15 and see how it works.
Jeff-C175 7,202 #635 Posted January 23, 2022 1 hour ago, Horse Newbie said: You mean this stud ?… The one with the 2 nuts on it . I believe so. That should be the "ground to kill" post on the magneto. Can't get a good shot on my engine, it's crowded there, but the arrow is pointing to that stud. The wire comes up and goes to that toggle switch which grounds that terminal when OFF. That's what your ignition switch does when it is off. I forget what those other wires are... too cold out there to hang around for long and figure it out again!

It's a time-waster to try and second guess why a PO might have done what he done. I would say he had a 30 and no 15s so he just stuck that in there.

Horse Newbie 7,075 #643 Posted January 23, 2022 @Jeff-C175, @kpinnc, @lynnmor, @WHX?? I’m needing spark plugs for the 16 hp twin Briggs… It had Champion J19LM’s in it. Manual calls for RJ12, but I can’t find RJ12… is it fine to put the J19LM plug back in it( new of course)

Did you axe Mrs. Google to help? https://www.amazon.com/CHAMPION-PLUGS-RJ12C-Spark-Plug/dp/B0044FQW9K https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/champion-copper-plus-small-engine-boxed-rj12c-592/18470044-p https://www.ebay.com/itm/174594003675 https://www.agrisupply.com/rj12c-spark-plug/p/40909/ But, it does appear to be physically the same size at the J19 ... not sure about the heat range though. That might be the 19 part of the number. I believe the " R " at the front of the designation denotes that it's a RESISTOR plug. So, the 19 could be a different temperature range and a NON resistor plug. It will WORK, but may, or may not be, correct. Doesn't burn any oil? Just wondering if there's a reason PO used a plug seven heat ranges hotter... PO probably put that plug in for the same reason he used a 30 A fuse.

Here's sumpin' else that might help. Looks like the Briggs SINGLES use the 19 but the twins use the 12. Edited January 23, 2022 by Jeff-C175
