Tractorhead 9,064 #1 Posted October 3, 2021 We went out for a Anual School meeting of Mrs. Tractorhead. It was a great meeting and i get in a Closer discuss with one of her Class Mates. We came to a discuss where he meants he need a small Tracta to exchange a wheelbarrow for his Wife. She opened a small grocery Store where se directly sell things from her own Harvest and from few Farmers arround. We both have a Beer in hands and we talking about the Tractas while he is planing, yeah until we talked, i see an Old Van aside. I remembered in my First Job training i drove this Van and longer in my first job and i loved it. Since than i allway‘s searching for a good usable one what is worth to restore but they be that quickly removed from the Roads. like over night they be - zzzzap - hidden or damaged or completely rusted. After i told him about that Story he asked - ya want it? I have such mass of Projects i must give this one up, no Time so it appears we can make a Deal. I meant - no Way, it appears a good Base, so we came up for a Cool Deal. We do a Red for Red exchange. Two shakeing Hands and a hit woth the Beer later we‘re done. Now i be an owner of a cool Old Van that needs a little Love and Care and he gets my 212 Horse after a little rework ( new Belt and Pulley’s) for his Wife. The 212 shall be used to collect harvested goods without a Wheelbarrow, instead she can ride it in future with a small Trailer in the Back. 3 5

peter lena 8,584 #5 Posted October 3, 2021 @Tractorhead, from the dry look of the finish on the underside , recommend you get a couple gallons of mineral oil , and an air pump spray set up , that dry look is begging to be saved now , get inside all the boxed channels , inside doors inside floor areas , spray top of welded seams so oil soaks and drips thru , ensuring lubrication soak . simple and easy to save what you have . that oil will not dry out , saving that metal body . good opportunity to save it , pete
Pullstart 62,807 #6 Posted October 3, 2021 Awesome Stefan! Will the Bavarian Horse fit inside that thing?
Stormin 9,981 #7 Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) Good vans those Ford Trannys, Stephan. No stupid fancy electrics and spares are plentiful. Petrol or diesel? Just one fault with that one. The steering wheel is on the wrong side. Edited October 3, 2021 by Stormin
cschannuth 3,816 #8 Posted October 3, 2021 Looks like somebody took the time to keep the bottom side of that van rinsed clean with water. That’s all I’ve ever done with my 30 year old pick up truck. I live in the rust belt and any time I got in salt or mud I immediately pulled out the garden hose and gently rinsed away the salt and mud. It still looks like brand new under there after all these years.
peter lena 8,584 #9 Posted October 3, 2021 @cschannuth agree with your hose down , vital simple step, that road salt looks like alka seltzer doing a moisture driven eating contest on the bottom of a car / truck. in conn , they pre salt the roads with a chemical line spray to help the road salt do a better job , but of course that has enhanced the chemical attack on your car . been using mineral oil and chain and cable spray , in every joint / seam area area, all welded seaming , along with that under side , wheel well , wash out. good zero rot effect , pete

Tractorhead 9,064 #11 Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) Thanks Lads, i be very glad about that deal. Even if i‘m now primary a GM Guy, i have had also some cool memories with the Transe (only this Model.) it is a 1987 Build if i read the System Code right, however it is made before 1990 and that means History Account is possible. Cheaper Taxes and lots things be easier, but the outlook must be very pretty to get it. *edit* The Engine is just the small 2Litre Petrol Engine with 4 Cyl. but if needed the 2,3L V6 from Ford Scorpio or Ford Granada also can be flanged to the Gearbox. Can be brought to LPG with a Cylinder head rework. But i be not shure if i wanna do that. *edit end*** Absolute no f***** painful electronics except Ignition, flasher, light switch, heater fan and Wipers - that‘s it.. The 4 Shift Gearbox can be kept or exchanged for the Granada Version ( the first 5 shift Gearboxes) but i will keep it Original. The Engine - it just have Originally 128.000Km (no Joke) looks needed for a Service because i sats for 18 years now in a (his) Barn. The Transe is just 3 Weeks outside the Barn now since and i luckily see her. So a complete Change of all Oils and most gaskets and Seals even on Axles seals is highly recommended before first Start. The starter cranks the Engine with a fresh loaded Battery easily to fireup, but i stopped it immediately before it fires. It is a Rear Wheel drive with enough weight on Rear Axle. Before this Van hits first times the Road i will exchange all needed Fluids and Oils, Gaskets and Seals and even the timing Belt. The second Step after i get Road permit is a complete protection with Mike Sanders and Fluid Film. before i protect it i must firstly finish few bodyworks and let give her a new Skin of Paint but than the Protection will be done. That is an „ absolutely ugh“ Work i knew i knew, but this lady is it Worth in my eyes. Edited October 3, 2021 by Tractorhead 2
peter lena 8,584 #12 Posted October 3, 2021 @pullstart this cable lube is another rust killer i regularly use, soaks in , with the lighter chain and cable lube , let dry , over cover with 680 open gear lube . , will not wash off ,an is a lubricant rust barrier . my cars and mower decks , use the same , mineral oil is a good base coat , as a penetrant . stops rust . notice how ford truck cabs bottom seam rust out , ? this combo will stop it, pete
