question on snowblower fitment

Recommended Posts

stegs

I found a newer "toro" single stage , tall chute snowblower. Guy had it on a 267H tractor

Will this fit my 417a tractor, or my c-141 tractor

I already have a 38"? short chute snowblower for my 417a, but i heard these tall chutes throw snow further (which i need for lake effect snow here in michigan)

anyway, will that tall chute fit up to either of my tractors?

A 267H has a completely different chassis than your 417a or C-141. The 267H also has a vertical shaft engine. Not saying that you couldn't make the blower work some how, but it will be far from a direct fit.

WHX??

:text-yeahthat:No it will not fit - Totally different animal for verticals. I would just look for a tall that will they are pretty common, around here anyway, for a 3,4 & 500 series tractor.

Nice thing about the talls is the less hassle gear driven chute turner. A short can be easily converted to a tall with the right donor parts.

darn ok.

Thanks guys/gals. I wasnt sure. I thought it would be a good deal....but maybe i live with my short chute for a winter and see how it does....

I mounted it a few days ago to test function......seems to spin quite fast and quiet. I noticed a few bends in the auger, but ill work those out

Problem with my shorts Stegs is when we get that slushy stuff it rips the chute right off. Like blowing concrete!  'Course mines been repaired about umteen times.

Your interested in a tall Stegs there was a guy real local here who had one for sale. I can check with the guy and see if he still has it and what he wants for it. Send it over the pond with @pullstart

Not sure it would be worth it??? I mean by the time i buy it and get it over here with shipping.... (edit, didnt realize @pullstart was so close to me)

I mean the short chute blower i have now in good shape cost me 100 bucks.

Id love to find a 2 stage blower for my 417a, but those see to be pretty rare.

I think my parts blower is a short shute.  I took the mounting brackets off it to build a front mount sickle mower.  If you can find one near @WHX?? by next weekend, I can bring it home within an hour of ya.

I think the chute itself off of the tall chute blower will fit on the short chute blower. Which would also eliminate  the cable to turn it...

I can get you some Cub in side wheel weights over with Kev if interested.....  guys on this thread have first dibs tho.

I did look at a guys house for the tall chute for sale....driving right by and had to stop to invite him to plow day anyway.  ... but found this a "mid chute"??? First I've ever seen of one. Must be the talls little brother!  Does have the gear turner tho. I would have bought it just to repair a short but a little steep on the price.

@stegs question is what type of snow do you usually get ? if its dry and fluffy , that tall chute will make it a lot of fun , if you get wet and heavy like i regularly do , a short chute is better. wet snow piles up in the chute base , so the shorter chute , discharges it quicker. also pay attention to the auger chain lubricant , you want a bout 1/2" of chain play in that drive chain, adjustment on lower edge of chain area . also use a silicone lubricant in your chute area , to enhance discharge . for auger bends , use 2 , 12 " adjustable wrenches working in opposed directions , right on top of each other , for greatest movement ease. keep that chain lubricated , and also lubricate any related movement point , just a few ideas , good luck , pete

Great tips for sure! Thank you

Here is west michigan, we get all types of snow. And generally alot of it.

Sometimes we get 12" of powder, sometimes 2-3" of wet slush.

I had a old jd 110, had short chute blower on it, and it was ok at best. Sold it to buy a tall chute and the performace was better. I also did the pully swap and flapper mod and it threw snow fantastic after that.

since got away from john deere stuff (thank goodness) back to wheel horse

This is true my talls plug up in wet stuff the short never did. You could see the wet just beating the snot out of the less stout short. We need some pics here.... :)

well  I listed my mower decks on here, and within minutes someone wants to trade me his tall chute for my 2 mower decks!

so now ill have a tall and short LOL

maybe the short can go on the 141 and the tall can go on the 417a

then i have the best of both worlds

@stegs  once you start blowing that snow , pay attention to your sun angle , learn to favor a sunny area  that will melt down faster , helping you out on a snow build up problem . my driveway has a sun side and a shade side , i plow from the shade side over to the sun side , and it  melts itself down to the corner drain , like having a helper , pete

Why :text-thankyouyellow: for the kind remarks. We do try here and a great bunch of fellas. More of a small town than a forum. Just a bunch of addicts who all have one thing in common, sometimes more, we love operating and wrenching on :wh:

Even more so when you have met some of the folks and broke bread with them so to speak. Turns out there a few members in your area

https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/membermap/

and most of them than willing to help out if they can. Heck we'll even help out the guys with the verticals....

Good point Pete... one of the reasons I took to blowing rather than pushing, which I had done for quite a few years,  is running out of room on a heavy year to stack it. Trucks, atv's, front blade on a horse you name it I tried them all. My particular slice of heaven blowing just seems to work best.

LOL ive been doing that for some time now. I have a south facing hill on one side of my driveway. I always blow the snow to that side. It melts way faster and generally that is the way the wind blows too!

I do have 1 last question. I think im going to move my short chute blower to my c-141 manual lift. I read something about a spring i can buy that will help "lift" the blower up

Can someone tell me where to buy this spring/and how it attaches?

@stegs https://www.google.com/search?q=wheel+horse+snow+blower+lift+spring+adjustment&tbm=isch&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiK9bab2qbzAhVtqnIEHZx-ACwQBXoECAEQNA&biw=1011&bih=598  , the " lift flag " is critical  for spring mount pull / lift point . lots of pictures here , showing related info .  pete
