854 Engine to Deck Belt

Recommended Posts

JustinW.73

Hey guys. Just picked up an old 854 with the 32 inch deck. I’m having issues with the deck running while the pedal is not engaged. I know it’s the right belt because it’s the original wheel horse belt with correct numbers.

Is your belt guide in the proper location.  First pic disengaged second engaged

Mine doesn’t have the keeper on the moving pulley. Just has 2 small rods bolted to the engine block.

Try emailing the picture to yourself and when the app asks what size to send, choose the smallest size.

Get and upload the one from the inbound email to the forum.

One of these would cure all of your picture problems.

My 604 we bought new never had the metal idler tang thingy. Belt would drag a tiny bit and the blades rotated a little when off. No big deal. Belt is 1/2" X 28"

My commando 8 did the same thing, gear drive deck spun super slowly when disengaged. I tried adjusting the guide on the pulley numerous times.

There is also supposed to be a bent steel rod that helps guide the belt too, attached to the block. Its part 85 in the diagram below.

Would not be hard to make one.  Piece of sheet metal about 1" wide  and bend it drill a hole in it...
