Gregor 4,846 #1 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) I have been researching Tecumseh SSI, and other ignition systems. I ran across an article, although I am not certain of the author, I believe it might be a guy named Dave Cave from Gas Engine Magazine. Again, I'm not sure, but I did read this, I am sure most of us are guilty of this, while checking compression, or whatever. It's something I was not aware of. Here is a link to the complete article. http://enginesandmagnets.com/id9.html Edited September 25, 2021 by Gregor 3
Maxwell-8 4,277 #2 Posted September 25, 2021 Intresting, I am guilty as well, intresting article, so voltage will keep raising whitin the coil. And may do damage to thing like burn the points or condensor?

And may do damage to thing like burn the points or condensor? Most likely burn a hole in the case of the coil to get to the coil mounting bracket or burn a hole in the plug wire. Older products with the shaft-driven magnetos also carried the warning. Wico, Fairbanks Morris and Edison-Splitdorf were common.

ebinmaine 67,671 #7 Posted September 26, 2021 (edited) I finally got a few minutes to scan down through that article. It's excellent that someone took all the time to write the findings out for future usage of the general population. Parts of it are certainly a tad intellectually consuming. It's great to see that there is a usable documented solution to the ignition system failure of older big block Tecumseh engines for sure, maybe Kohler too?
