JCM 9,166 #1 Posted September 24, 2021 Six years ago while on a mini vacation in northern Maine checking out an antique store I stumbled upon an 8'' WH wheel cover in very rough condition among a bunch of antique tools. I picked it up and thought it may make a nice ornament to drill a small hole in the center and screw it in the shop overlooking the tractors. For some reason I talked myself out of it. One year later I wondered if it were still in that store and while visiting the area I went back and sure enough it was in the same place where I left it. This morning I decided to remove a small dent with a body hammer and give it a clean up with some Mothers and aluminum foil. I won't be drilling a hole in it and yes it was worth the $ 9.95 I paid for it to save just a tiny bit of WH history. 9

WheelhorseBob 1,549 #6 Posted September 25, 2021 Excellent. I’d like to think we would all preserve WH history but I’m afraid we’re a small group. Well done!
EB-80/8inPA 1,641 #7 Posted September 25, 2021 Nice. It would be interesting if someone could explain how/why that aluminum foil trick works. I assume it’s Chemistry?
Retired Wrencher 5,455 #8 Posted September 25, 2021 Jim I used to do the same thing when I was collecting them. Clean them up make the tractor look a lot better.

I assume it’s Chemistry? alloy is a relative soft material and works great as a applicator pad when using metalpolish on crome or steel. removes the rust very fast. I do tend to finish with a towel to finish of and give it a mirror like shine.
