When I went in October,the 5073 was still in it and it was cool seeing both tires grabbing for traction. I would love to fix that key way seat problem and put it back into service. The key way seats in the axle shaft ends are opened up too much which led to the right hub walking over to the axle housing. I might see if a machine shop can cut new ones in. I’m not a machinist but I believe the term is broaching? I think that at least pertains to the long keyway cutout on a shaft. I ground a tapered shaft engine with a handgrinder down to 1 inch and cut in a 1/4 keyway seat. It actually worked. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Oldskool 6,644 #93 Posted November 7, 2021 I cut my own on Project Snowdrift. They were full length. I used a 4.5" angle grinder. I stacked up Forney cut off wheels in conjunction with a Makita cut off wheel. They are different thicknesses. Before cutting the slot I do a pre cut on scrap steel to even up the diameters of the wheels. I drew a centered line on the axle and cut. Then clean it up with a single cut off wheel. It takes a steady hand and a can do attitude because if you mess up it's a MESS. I would suggest trying a full slot on some scrap first.
