Notice my new Timberlands! I forgot my boots of all things and had to stop and get a new pair in Pennsylvania on Friday night. It was late and the Redwing store would be closed, if there was one in the area. TSC was open though so no Redwings this time! Work gives me a clothing allowance.

Since the last plow day event, I am going to a set of 105 lb wheel weights with a set of 45s which will put me at 300 lbs. I just didn’t have enough weight last time but should be better this time. The axle shaft key way seat is pretty worn out on the right shaft of the #5073 so I swapped that trans for a # 103916 out of a C-165 parts machine. There is another event this coming November I want to go to before winter comes. These 105s are a bear to mount but well worth it.

They were made at a steel company around the late seventies/ early eighties and came on a Suburban 12 my dad bought from his friend. They’ve been on several tractors since then. I got one side done but need longer carriage bolts for the other. When they were on my dads ST16, it was unstoppable.

I desperately needed steer tires for this tractor and just got some new tri-ribs from Greater Cleveland Tire. I will mount them tomorrow and I’m ready to go for Saturday’s plow day in PA. I also got the heavier wheel weights mounted so I should be good. After that it’s time to start getting the snow plow ready for winter plow day.

Yes it’s this B80 worker I’ve had for a few years. It worked hard this last year hauling the log splitter around, split firewood loads, grading the base for my pool, snow plowing and everything else. Just a good old tractor I can’t live without. This is when I first got it.

Looking good! Just a little tip on your rear weights. You'll want to put more weight on the left side than the right side. This will keep you from having to lean to the left all the time.

I mounted my new steers and am officially off to the races Saturday. I can tell a difference in the steering even more now. I have bought tires from Dave at Greater Cleveland Tire for years so I stayed with him again but Miller was about the same price for 16x6.50-8s. Excuse the messy garage since I’ve been in it a lot for other things besides this tractor. It will be straightened up next week.

The extra weight and tri ribs helped tremendously and it turned out to be a beautiful day after 29 degree temperatures when I arrived. Carharts for most of the morning this time. Sorry about no pics but go to chapter34.com and they should be on there tomorrow. One of the club members was nice enough to let me take his Cub down the furrow. Wow what a difference compared to the Raider. I know it’s comparing apple to oranges but I can see why the Cubs are so popular. Unfortunately for me that would necessitate a larger tow vehicle and trailer. I’ve got some ideas for a high rider floating around in my head so I will remain a Wheel Horse fan and represent at the plow days.

Great updates!  Thanks for the read!  Hauling west down I-80 yesterday I saw a truck and trailer with 4 gt’s heading east about mid-day, maybe just after lunch time.  I wondered if there was an event, but it might have been too late to get to this plow day you attended.  One WH, a couple 2-3 Cubs?

With the extra weight, did you notice the lack of the limited slip diff?  I’ve been contemplating tossing the LSD’s in our plow tractors, wondered how much of a difference they make?

Josh showed up with a c-100, two Sears suburbans( an orange and a blue) and I think the fourth was a cub cadet. He showed up late due to trailer problems. He would have been on i80 at that time. I think he messaged me around noon? Anyways there was a younger guy that had the Ford ABS ignition conversion on a Sears ST12 with a HH 120 . May start looking for a 953/1054 in the future.

I took the 5073 out and put in a 103916 because the key way seats are badly beat out on the 5073. So I can’t say this time until or if I ever replace the 5073 axle shafts. The new trans occasionally spun on the high side but not bad. I plowed in 1st high range and moved along pretty good and steady. The two Cubs just rolled like it was nothing. I wish the Ponds kept building the RS83 and brought it along into the modern era as far as it could have gone.

Musta’ been!  I was on the phone with my buddy when he went by, at 11:37am 

 

953/1054 might just be the best modern WH plow machine, in stock form!

We have a Pond plow for or Senior, I’ll get it in a furrow sooner or later.
