WHX?? 48,828 #26 Posted October 5, 2021 So after further review of the play Slim is that a 520 swept front end on her? That would explain the existing front rubber and that might be a game changer but how I have no idea yet. Do you have the rest of the reduction steering gear on her? Looks to be from here. I do believe with some tweeks and tuneing you might have a good base for a plow mule right ther.

Linseed does work, looks great and a fair to middlin metal protector but does have it's drawbacks. It attracts dust and does need to be reapplied occasionally. I would suggest you stay with 23s on the rear but eventually go with tri ribs on the front. Tri ribs are easier to control in the furrow. Those turfs are going to want to "plow" as well if soft soil. Gotta like your front weights tho! I did go back to the 23s but will have to wait on the ribs for now. The linseed was an experiment but I’m happy with it. I remember hearing about guys adding a little kerosene to the soap and water when they washed their car. I may make a tire switch on the fronts now that you’ve got me thinking about it. Thanks for your comments guys.👍 1

Be careful about 4.80 tires on those rims. I know they are inexpensive and redily available but 520 rims are a bit wider and they may not fit right and a a pain to get seated. We win the lotto Slim these would be the ticket on 520 rims! https://www.millertire.com/16x6-50-8-firestone-3-rib-front-tractor-tire-4-ply/ Also after looking at your setup more you may want to do spacers. Idealy you want the inside of the rears to line up with the inside of the fronts (blue line). That way both tires ride up against the wall of the furrow and the fronts do not want to "climb" up out of the furrow. Running a Brinly hitch adjust the plow left or right as needed to help this. Soil conditions dictate alot on this. I like that front end on her and wouldn't beafraid to have a go with it. When setting up a plow mule experimenting is everything. Let me clarify that I am going to switch the floats with mounted 4.80s off the original front axle. But I know what you mean by narrow tires on wider wheel. I’m anxious to see how it works.

slim67 2,735 #40 Posted October 5, 2021 Well I’ll just have to run it the way it is for now . The spindles on the 520 axle are about 7/8 diameter versus 3/4 for a pair of wheels I planned on using. I’m sure I could configure something in the near future but will have to adjust for now,if necessary. Half the fun is trying new ideas. 2
Pullstart 62,906 #41 Posted October 6, 2021 All of my plow day junk is still the way it was left last year… broken. I took a cruise with my niece in the field yesterday, wondering how all these chopped corn stalks might plow. I might hafta stick something in the ground soon, just to try to make believe I’m at the plow day.

I hope mine doesn’t but it’s a 50 year old tractor so it’s anyone’s guess. Who’s the fella in the wheelchair?

slim67 2,735 #49 Posted October 10, 2021 I got out on the field this morning with around 15 other tractors. The weather was overcast most of the time but we still got a lot done. Everyone had traction issues from rain the night before. The limited slip #5073 worked well as I just didn’t have enough weight. I would love to get my dads 105 pounders in the future. Nothing broke except the right hub walked against the axle housing so have to pull that apart this week. Overall it was fun and I will do it again. Nice group of guys of which one is a member here. Sorry about the lack of pics. I don’t text and drive, might plow into the guy in front of you (no pun intended). 1
