K301 fuel pump leaking oil???

Sorry Eric I goofed. (It's hell to get old! :rolleyes:

 

12V+ from the battery to terminal #1 Power from the key switch to terminal # 4. Pump power wire to terminal # 3.  At  rest the relay contact is at # 2 which means if terminal 1 is hot then terminal # 2 is hot also with no power being applied to terminal #4 (Coil posititve) When you were to turn the key on Power is applied to terminal # 4. The coil energizes and creates a magnetic field. This pulls the contact from the # 2 terminal and applies it to # 3. The fuel pump positive wire is connected to # 3 and power now flows to the pump. No wire is attached to the #2 terminal. :)

Pete could you provide a pic of your check valve? I am trying to wrap my head around how it would keep the fuel from evaporating out of the carb. Thanks!

 Holds fuel in the line right up to the float needle valve.  Even if all the gas in the bowl evaporates (and that would take some time) the first few revolutions of eh engine the fuel pump will push it into the bowl and enough to be sucked up the main needle

We leave machines dormant as much as a year here and they start right up.  

 

 

Well I can tell you less than a week and its gone. I have to crank it for 5 second intervals 3 times. The gas formulation today and carburetors do not get along. I have the same problem in ALL my carb'd vehicles.  I only use non-ethanol 91 octane in these vehicles. If your cranking up engines that have sat for a year count your blessings!

Paul that makes good sense. Is there a certain part number you use?

The electric fuel pump idea would be the answer for sure but I just don't want another system to fail eventually and I like the simple, original look. Same reason I haven't installed one on say my #1 64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible.

Yeah see that's why I ask...

Gas just is not evaporated from a tractor in a week or a month. 

You're losing it to drain back. 

Check valve would help.  

Primer bulb would help.

OK I am getting a bit confused the Original poster had an Electro 12.  Drain back is not an issue no check valves needed the gas tank is above the carb.  Heck if you keep the tank at least half full you do not need a fuel pump...

Oh yes it does. I've known this for years. No fuel in the idle circuit no start.  Like I said, the Carter AFB on my 64 Sport Fury 426 is bone dry after two weeks. The only good thing is while cranking the engine has oil pressure before it starts. The down side is more wear & tear on starter & the $400.00 battery.

It's interesting that we don't have that issue here in Maine. 

I do know for a fact that states have different laws for fuel formulas. 

Perhaps whatever we get isn't prone to evaporation.
