RV’ers. A bizarre shortage.

We use the pink RV/marine antifreeze where I work to winterize some potable water military systems we build.  We don’t use a lot, but enough that we usually buy it a drum or two at a time.

I called one of the manufacturers who makes this stuff the other day to get a barrel sent to us…no luck.

As it turns out, there is a market shortage of propylene glycol which is the primary constituent of this stuff. He said they usually buy “millions of gallons” of it for their manufacturing but have been placed on an allotment of only a few thousand gallons a month.

Anyway, he said that basically what is out on store shelves is all there is this season.

if you need a gallon or two to winterize your RV, don’t wait.   Don’t hoard it either, of course as that would be selfish and stupid…you only need what you need and then only in the winter.

I bought enough at Menards to get us through November and they had a ton of it, but there’s a chance restocking won’t be quick this season.   Taking us through spring is our purchasing agent’s problem now.
