kpinnc 12,087 #61 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) I really like the look of this, but I'm thinking you may want to consider raising this engine about an inch. I've had to do the same on every repower I've ever done. WH likes those deep oil pans, and matching another engine can be tricky. You may get lucky without doing it, but the belt guard is an integral part of the "clutch" function on a manual tractor. It supports the belt so that it stops completely when the pedal is depressed. Like the others stated, it's needed on the manual trans tractors for slowing/stopping belt when clutch is engaged. Almost looks like it needs to go up n towards the back for the crank to be in the spot as the original. Or could redesign the belt guard, but think that would be harder than jsut raising the engine....Curious to hear the exhaust, mines on it's 3rd since I've had it, and not spending money on the OEM!!!! Lee1977 6,666 #63 Posted September 25, 2021 There is a interior flange the the bottom side of the belt lays on when the belt is stopped for changing gears. That flange is welded to the inside of the belt guard on single cylinder Kohlers. My 520-H it is bolted to the hoodstand the 520-8 drawings shows the same. With the clutch depressed the belt should lay on the flange, with the clutch out it should be above the flange. Bens vintage tractors 1,542 #65 Posted September 25, 2021 I have done 100s of repowers on wheel horses the belt guard was just sat there to make sure the exhaust wouldn’t come close to it. I’ve already spent a couple hours making sure the belt didn’t rub anywhere since the pulleys are swapped. Very nice! I was gonna use flat bar, but your idea sounds better. I cut almost the whole side out on my 520-H, and never finished it.
