Balance gears toasted ?

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorse#1

Is this what cause them to come apart ,lots of slop in both of them.

This is a 301 I’m going to put new piston, rod and rings along with new valves.

this one has never been apart far as I can tell.Decent shape just not well taken care of but not a ton of hrs on it.

Looks like the consensus is ,most say just remove the balance gears ?

Thanks folks  ,that’s just what I thought. The other one in back ,the needle bearing was just about gone and the c-clip was barely holding on.

Looking forward to bringing this one back, these motors are a pleasure to work on but can get a little pricey. Well, in my opinion worth it …they just don’t make em like this anymore

worn balance gears can be problematic.

Looks like you got lucky.
