Tilt cylinder for new loader build

Recommended Posts

Hello all I've been in the process of building a front loader for my 520H I've gotten so far as to building a subframe and the towers but I was thinking about going with a single tilt cylinder for the loader bucket like the BX series Kubota uses . The main purpose of going with a single cylinder   would be to save on one extra cylinder just looking for opinions or if anyone has actually used the same concept and how it worked out

Also it does seem to simplify and clean up the entire installation

I see no issue with using a single ram on the bucket. With a little extra steel you could also make a self leveling bucket set up with the single ram. Similar to what Case and CAT use on their construction equipment.

If you are buying new cylinders just make sure they are ones that are common size. Helps if you every need to replace one. We have three loaders over the last ten or so years and only one leaked. We did get a replacement and a kit to repair.

Sizing the cylinder to the pump GPM is essential. Controllable speed.

I looked at both, as a matter of fact, i looked at my old neighbors Kubota single thinking about doing it that way. I did use up a little more space and kind of but it right in the center of works. Ended up with two on the ends I was trying to keep the load closer to the tractor. The single cylinder was just about twice the diameter of the lift cylinder.

These pics were from 2011

Thank you all for your replies

JoeM, both very nice tractors ,sorry to get off my original subject a bit , I really enjoy my Wheel horses both my 520H and C161 but I really have an  affinity for the Kubota BX series,  just yesterday, I went down to my local dealer to look at a couple BX's the BX1880 and BX23S but after getting a quote of 19K for the 1880 and 27K for the BX23S  (backhoe/loader)  unfortunately, both a bit out of my league.

I believe I will be going the single cylinder route, I think it's a nice looking concept

I am with you, I could not justify the amount of use to lay out the big bucks. My xi loader does pretty much all I need.

I am fortunate tho, I have a good friend that has an excavation business and he does any of my hoe jobs for fuel when needed. I just get ready and when he has an opportunity wheels in and digs. (oh yeah I got to feed him too!)
