yerm50 9 #1 Posted September 8, 2021 Can anyone tell me the value of this wagon as it sits? Looks like it's been painted over, the arm has been welded and the tires are shot. Other than than that it's in pretty good shape! 2
Herder 2,354 #2 Posted September 8, 2021 I've seen them listed for a few hundred dollars or more provided they are not rotted. The tires can be tubed, originals are hard to find. Wheels can be painted. The arm is not the nicest looking repair, but appears solid. I am guessing the seller is asking for 2 to 3 hundred. (?) I tend to offer half the asking price. Sometimes it works to my advantage.
squonk 41,040 #3 Posted September 8, 2021 YUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hitch arm can be fixed as well!
yerm50 9 #4 Posted September 8, 2021 Thanks for replies. Originally I wanted to fix it up and now I am thinking of selling it.
WHX?? 48,801 #5 Posted September 8, 2021 I have seen originals in good shape go for as high as 450. That one is about 150-200 tops. with the work it needs I personally wouldn't go over 100. Does look like a good candidate for a full blown resto tho.
stevasaurus 22,712 #6 Posted September 8, 2021 Those wagons always had too short of a hitch to pull around by hand. I bet it was lengthened so the tall owner didn't have to bend over while moving it into position. Burrly1 got one that was NOS...gave about $800 for it. I think the guys above are way too low in the price. Change out those tires and it is a $500 to $600 trailer. This was John's NOS...paid $800. This was mine...paid $500. Notice how short the hitch is and it will not lift up high enough to pull by hand without bending over. 5

I agree also Dino I just think they are overpriced from a collectors standpoint to begin with. I don't think they are as rare as we suspect as I know at least six guys that have one and they seem to pop up quite abit. I just don't get what the hoopla is about them...well yah they are cool and I'd take one if one was to drop in my lap for a franklin but still I get more use out of my fleet of $75 LTD-244s. stevasaurus 22,712 #8 Posted September 8, 2021 I sold mine to John for that some years ago. He actually had 5 or 6 of them. Not sure how many, if any, he still has. BTW, you can put a round hood inside of it. I have a feeling the ones you saw come up for sale were John's. Jim, I resent your remark about trying to keep the price up, I have never been in this hobby for the money. Even that plow I sold you, was for what I had in it.

Not trying to flip anybody off or anything... but I'd pay double that for a trailer like that. Has anyone actually looked at trailers from tractor stores... they are very expensive... AND yes, I own a couple trailers, including 1 that I made... Don

Personally, I would pay more for that trailer/wagon, than I would for a brand new one from a tractor parts store. I mean, come on. Grainger sells a 4 wheel trailer, same size, for over 700 bucks. I would easily pay 5-7 hundred (maybe more... for a Wheel Horse trailer). That's just me! Don

squonk 41,040 #15 Posted September 8, 2021 Those trailers may be plentiful in certain area's but you hardly ever see them for sale around here and then they are $3-400 for a rotted one.
pfrederi 17,685 #16 Posted September 8, 2021 Interesting discussion. The value is what someone is willing to pay for it. I have a lot of WHs and implements but I am not a collector (meaning i have to have specific model(s)). All of my tractors have assigned tasks/implements. A 4 wheel wagon such as this is not something I would pay much money for. Trailers are, to me, meant to be used. Loaded with dirt, stones logs etc. They are tools. not toys to me. So I am not going to lay out big bucks for something I can't use (you pay $400-500 dollars for something you really do not want to beat it up.) Secondly, 4 wheel trailers may good for some people but I (and many others) have never mastered the art of backing up a 4 wheel trailer. (hence the extended draw bar so they could manually park it.) So for me the "value" is minimal...for some one who collects things, maybe much more...

squonk 41,040 #22 Posted September 9, 2021 Just because someone doesn't need or want a particular item, doesn't mean it isn't worth more to someone who wants/needs one. Like Paul said. It's worth what someone is willing to pay. Go to the big show and try to buy the wagon pictured for " $150-$200 tops" I'll hang up and listen! 3
stevasaurus 22,712 #23 Posted September 9, 2021 The pictures I posted are from 2009. There was only about 1,000 members on Red Square then, no FB Wheel Horse junkies, no CL, and E-Bay was pretty new. Things that were hard to find, cost more. Maybe the price has dropped, because we see more of them, or because they are showing their (another 12 years) age. Also, anybody with a small lot is never going to want one, they are not small. It's just like, I am never going to buy a horse larger then a "short frame" square hood. I sold mine in (I think) 2011. I was accused of trying to keep the price of them up because it was thought that I still had one. That post has now been edited...thank you. All the rest of these guys are giving you what they think. Nothing wrong with that. I showed pictures of 2 of them and the fact of what they cost at the time. When it comes down to it...it is worth what you want and what the buyer is willing to pay. MY 2 cent, since, sense.
