Transmission clutch lever

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have pictures of the OEM transmission clutch lever handle that was on the C models?  It sits just ahead of the seat right of center and disengages the idler pulley to the drive belt?  Or, is there an OEM supply of this sort of thing out there?  I don't see how it's supposed to lock in the disengaged position unless it's using the handle (which is missing) as part of the latching mechanism.  Any illumination is appreciated.

It is an "over Center" action.  When you pull up and back it latches to release you have to pull up again and push forward a bit.

Transmission clutch, not the PTO clutch.  Mine can't be an over-center unless something is missing or modified.

Okay, now I see it!  Thanks.  Requires a pretty good amount of force to pull it up, especially without a knob.  Do you know if knobs are still available?  Aftermarket identical substitute?  If anyone has an OEM knob, I'd be interested in doing a 3d model of it and fabricating one.

Get a wooden spool from the other half's sewing kit.  Cut in half and bolt to the lever

Glen Pettit had them for sale...may now be transferred to Wheel horse parts and more you wpuld have to ask.

I think the idler pulley is the wrong one for this tractor.  The diameter is too large for the over-center lock to work.  The pulley makes contact with the frame when you try to disengage.  Either that or someone has altered the linkage in some way.  Parts all look professionally manufactured but you can never tell.  I can see the frame broke at the transmission mount at some point and someone welded and bolted some angle iron on to reattach it but not in any way that alters how the lever linkage works.

I thought this was a "restoration" part of the forum ;)

The idlers are different on tractors without the drive clutch. The pulley also mounts in a different spot on the idler arm.

I have the same issue on the C-195 I bought a couple week ago.  The idler pulley is hitting the flange on the frame before the lever can go over center.

Jack's Small Engine Repair lists knobs and levers.

@chipwitch , in addition to fitting new parts , go over function detail with , belt guard removed , also aerosol lubricate every movement and function , make the  rust run out, found that to be a big part of smooth easy clutch function , just my own experience , pete
