Mule Drive pulleys for 1990 520H

Hi!

 

I am curious about the 'mule drive' on my 520H.  When replacing the two pulleys (one "v" and one "u" channel,) are there any other parts needed, or do they just go onto the axle/rod of the Attach-a-matic?  The "v" pulley goes on the inside?

 

It looks like the part numbers are 104974 and 105975, if that is all that is needed.  Are aftermarket parts worth buying?  Does anybody have any recommendations?

Pretty sure there are a couple spacers needed in there for alignment purposes too.

Agree. I read a post a while back by a member pointing out that the mule is particular about the spacing--be sure to use the same width of hubs on the pulleys and put the spacers back in the same order as they came out!

You can find the after-market pulleys for 104974 and 104975 as a set of Ebay...$50 bux or so.

What is the part number for the spacer?  It might be that is all I need, as it seems to be missing. {Edit- it looks like there two spacers from that diagram.  Where can I find part numbers?}

 

Also- is 102742 the correct belt?

Thought of another question.

@Divemaster2000 as you take the drive apart , lay it out , to refit , there is only 1 spacer between those pulleys . also lightly , sand that shaft and use grease to remount. recommend while you have the opportunity , to use lucas hi temp , anti sling polyurea grease  in those new bearings . small pocket screwdriver , easily pop off the bearing side shields , wipe out " grease " replace with the lucas  x-tra heavy duty , $ 5 , walmart . not long ago did the same new pulley swap on a pto drive . no whining , no noise , no failures . use this on every bearing , those 6203 , bearings get quite hot , and lubrication fail . realize that just saying this is  terrifying to many , but why not stop a problem while you are there ? grease is rated for 560 deg drop point , use it in all my deck bearings , quiet smooth operation .  sorry if I threw you of course , my 3 horses are set up the same way , with no repetitive bearing failures , pete

What size deck?   42,48, or 60".       The 60" requires the special spring loaded mule drive.

It's a 42" deck.

 

When I said it looks like there are two spacers, that included one between the shield and the outer pulley (closest to the nut.)

 

I will pick up that Lucas grease, thank you.  Wow, Amazon is charging over $17 for what is $5 at Walmart...

 

Edit- I see what you mean about them being hacked.

Since you were curious and had to go to that page, I hope you clear ALL of your browser's history RIGHT NOW!

And now would be a good time to do an anti-virus pass, as well. Pages get hacked for a reason--most of the time because the hackers want something from whoever visits the page!

I would call the number on the main page and speak to Lowell. He'll tell you what you need to do next.

Also you can check other vendors on this form (Vendors under the Browse menu) and check with them!

I always go to the Toro website to look up part numbers, then do a search for the numbers needed.  For example, here is my deck mule: https://www.toro.com/en/parts/partdetails/?id=5529

I couldn't find the information the Tory website, it could be that I am using the wrong terms to search on.

 

I did find a post from 2019 (see below) that looks to have the part numbers.

Front idler assembly mule

1/2" long spacer part number 101757 is on the outside between the pulley and cover.

5/8" long spacer part number 101734 is between the pulleys.

Spacer ID needs to slip over 3/4" shaft.

Click on parts & manuals and put in your model number.  If you don’t have the model number, look it up right there.  Simple.

lynnmore- I have tried, but I wasn't finding a part diagram that showed me the spacers.  I'm not sure why.

 

So, I went with the post from Garry, and ordered those spacers.

Works well for me, click on parts & manuals and enter your model number.  Being able to find part numbers and seeing exploded views is a real help.  Explain what you are doing, the website is easy.
