Sewman 20 #1 Posted September 2, 2021 I picked this 520H up at a decent price because it had the vac-bagger on it BUT the deck mounting brackets pulled out of the deck & the PO had a ratchet strap going over the hood & hooked on each side of the deck to mow.I've been looking for a deck & can't find one so I decided to plate it.It ended up not being too bad of a job. 2 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

peter lena 8,587 #4 Posted September 2, 2021 @Sewman agree with others on the save , with what you have , hope you manage to find a good spare deck , notice none of the lift frame movement areas have any lubrication on them , but the movement points are wallowed out . make a point of using chassis grease on those areas , for a smooth deck / frame follow. did you clean out the bottom side ? oil soak it down to kill off the rust and lubricate the metal ? decks are typically not looked at till they fail , hope you recover yours , concentrate on the lubrication of the shell , that's what cause the bracket break off . regularly drop mine to check it over , always do a lubricant addition to the hidden areas . just my own experience , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

kpinnc 11,932 #7 Posted September 2, 2021 Nice job on the repair! Amazing (or frightening) how folks come up with a method to get things done. My first wheelhorse's PO sold it to me because it was hard to crank and left an uneven cut when mowing. He had replaced a deck guage wheel with a round block of wood that was more than an inch smaller than the other side. I didn't say a word... And the hard starting issue was because the positive post on the battery was covered in dark green corrosion. He replaced the starter but never cleaned the battery terminals. I shouldn't be, but I am still often surprised by how situations are seen so differently by different people. In some cases, these entirely different perspectives yield breathtakingly creative and admirable responses ("Why did that apple just fall from the tree?" "Does the Sun really revolve around the Earth?"). And then there are the "Aren't kerosene and gasoline pretty much the same? So why won't it work in my lawn mower?" situations.
