Hein Werner pump

What are the HW pumps selling for if you come across one? What does the bracket look like to mount it to the tractor and how hard are those to find? Could the cylinder on a 520H be paired to the pump ? Thanks

When I built the three point hitch for my 953 I used a cylinder from a 418, same as the 520 uses.

Whatever you and the seller agree upon! I picked one up for 30 that came off a Simplecity and has the opposite rotation for a horse but figured to run it off the flywheel side ala   @Achto Raider 12 plow mule. His was a Century - Fox but same cup o tea.

Guessing the  ones a bit more $ ....if you can find one. Getting to be quite rare. Don't pass on other brands ... a lot of them used it.  You can run any of the 1 1/2" cylinders off it but would not be suitable for say a loader. 

@wheelhorseman and @Lane Ranger are Hein pros.

Harder to find than the pump but somewhat  easy to make. I don't have a pic of it but this one on my plow mule was robbed off a 753 HY-2 with a 953 pump & cylinder. 

Your best off looking for a survivor that has an HY setup on it. 

Found a pic of the bracket as would be used on round hoods but adaptable to some  late models.

Slim67,  WHX?? (Jim) has posted some pics and details about Hein-Werner hydraulic pumps added to a Wheel Horse as a very useful attachment. 
 

The benefit of the pump added to a Wheel Horse is the mid and rear lift assisted with a good lift cable can raise over three hundred pounds.  A snowplow, mid-grader blade, rear garden plow, cultivator, disc, etc.  

 

There are lots of parts needed depending on the tractor model.  My experience with Hein Werner pumps is with 953,1054 , 701, 702 (and similar 1962 to 1964 Wheel Horse round hood models).  I have not had experience with 1965 and later models with Hein Werner .  I do own a couple hydro Toro model 314's. But have not had to work on the lift system on those. They have pumps on the transmission and a lift cylinder on the brake band side of the tractors.

 

I am posting several pics for your review.

I have a Hein Werner system on my 1961 701 Wheel Horse with a front cutter bar on it.  The lift helps raise and lower the sickle to cut at different heights.

 

The first pic is of the basic parts for a Hein Werner pump set up. Missing our new hoses (Lowell S. Sells at wheelhorsepartsandmore.com) and the belt cover seen in pics 11 and 12.  The cover bolts on with two hex head bolts with spacers behind.

 

Picture two and three is of the bracket that bolts to left side of the tractor snd is used if you have a push button starter and key switch on the tower in front of your shifter on your tractor like a 702 or 753 model has in it.  This is because the pump mounts in front of the tower where your key switch and push button starter are located. 
 

Pics four, five and six show a cylinder and two brackets used to mount the pump on the tower below the dark.

 

Picture 7 is of the rock shaft and lift arm (that inserts in the rockshaft) that the lift cylinder rides in on front of the cylinder.

 

Eight, nine snd ten pictures are of the cylinder inside the Hein Werner pumps and the spring (I call this one the rabbit ears spring and this one has short legs and will not work properly) that are used in different pumps.  There is a second spring (I call the butterfly spring) used in later built pumps. The springs are not interchangeable in the internal pump cylinder.  There are O rings and also an oil seal on the outer shaft where the Hein Werner pump pulley ride.  You can see shaft o  the pump in the 1st picture below the black knob.  This pump is a 953/1054 pump by the way.  I am going to put an internal cylinder that will work for a 702 installation on it.   The long cylinder in picture 8 is for 702/753 etc applications and short is what is in 953/1054.

11,12,13, and 14 pictures show a Hein Werner setup on my 701 tractor.  This setup is all original.

 

Pictures 15 and 16 are of the rear hitch required to mount the lift cylinder on the brake side of the tractor.  While the front of the cylinder goes into the lift arm mounted in the rockshaft (again you may have to make or find an original) the rear of the cylinder mounts with a big pin on the top of the rear hitch that was made specifically for the Hein Werner application. 
 

These pumps with complete parts are rare - you usually just have to buy a tractor with a complete setup on it.  On its own I would say $200 to $350 with everything is a fair estimate of cost to buy.   Be aware that there are pumps that look like this Hein Werner that run in different direction. 
I think they were made by Century.

 

These are a great addition to a Wheel Horse.  While I guess I am a collector and go to shows, I use all my tractors as workers!  That is what they were built to do .

Yes he was over 100 for it but as you say probably getting harder to find.

Removing and replacing the rock shaft will probably be the hardest part of the job. They tend to rust to each other.

Got that right Slim & Lane......not that I don't appreciate a trailer queen who will spend the rest of her life as show candy. When I put together a nice resto I look at it and see my down falls and proceed to work her. Even if it's just tub duty. I just like to see her in good mechanical shape. Same with my orginals.

Thank you Slim. The credit goes to @Shynon and his boy @prondzy who I TRY to emulate when throwing together a plow tractor. They are a bit younger but much more wiser and  have got ones that beat mine hands down.

I remember when prondzy put the tractor together for plow days and I recall it had the pump also. I’m too far away for your plow days but will try and make one or two in Pennsylvania this fall.
