K181 Starter help

 So my starter got jamed up on the flywheel. When I got the covering off I noticed a tooth was missing. 

I got the starter gear free. but now it engages the flywheel, but the shaft spins inside the gear. 

does any one know where to get parts? or should i get a replacement?

The Bendix drive is not fixed to the armature shaft. It slides in and out on a twisted spline. With the starter motor turning the spline forces the gear into the flywheel and when the flywheel speed exceeds the starter motor speed it forces the drive back to the starter.

There has to be less expensive parts available from after-market suppliers.

I haven't been too keen on them for a while now.  I have had issues with the past few orders.  Mostly delays with shipping orders.  I don't think they actually stock the parts themselves any longer.  It seems to me that they are now 'drop shippers' and they don't have their supply channels set up very well yet.

 

I think "Pat's Small Engines" might be a better bet.

Not this drive gear assembly?  (this may only be for the aftermarket starter that they sell?)

Is this a starter that has the mounting holes in the top instead of the bottom? If so I have one here I'll let go cheep! Let me know.

ah i missed that, I need to pull it apart, and figure out why the gear engages, but the shaft just spins.
