05-42rk01 deck shell compatibility

Recommended Posts

Anybody know if the deck shell from an 05-42rk01 rear discharge deck off a 252-H can be fitted with attach o matic hardware from a similar rd deck and mounted on a 312-8?  The shells look very similar and the 05-42rk01 shell APPEARS to have the appropriate holes for the attach o matic lift...

The 113459 bare deck pan was only used on the 1988-89 model 05-42RK01. A difference of one hole would create a different part number.

Here is a list of the 42" RD decks for the long frame 312-8 so you can compare.

Mower DNA

1976 model 65-42MR01 replaced by - (Has the flat spindle belt idler pulley mounted on a triangular plate.) - (Has multi-link hardware at the gauge wheel support)

1977 model 75-42MR01 - Both use blades with 5/8" x 3/4" double-D center hole unless the spindles have been upgraded. (Has the flat spindle belt idler pulley mounted on a triangular plate) - (Has multi-link hardware at the gauge wheel support)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These all use blades with 3/4" center hole.

1977 model 75-42MR02 replaced by - (Has the flat spindle belt idler pulley mounted on a flat bar) (Has multi-link hardware at the gauge wheel support)

1978 model 85-42MR01 - (Has the flat spindle belt idler pulley mounted on a flat bar) (Has multi-link hardware at the gauge wheel support)

1979 model 95-42MR01 - No ipl available

1979 model 95-42MR02 - (Has no multi-link hardware at the gauge wheel support)

1980-1983 model 05-42MR01

1984 model 05-42MR02 - Last year for bearings with 3/4" ID

1985 model 05-42MR03 - First year for bearings with 17mm ID unless older spindles were updated.

1986-1988 model 05-42MR04

1989-1990 model 15-42RC01

1990-1992 model 15-42RC02

1993-2012 model 78350

Note - 17mm is .669"

Will guess the hardware could be transferred for one deck to the other but may require a few new holes.

Thank you!

This place is wild.  I expected this thread to be DOA.

I may chance it, will report back.  Current deck has lost a lot of barely-there sheet metal over the last dozen hours of mowing... i expect the potential replacement deck is thinning in the same areas, but worth a look.

One of many great things about Wheel Horse is that they used alot of the same parts on different machines for literally decades at a time with little to no changes year to year and model to model.

If it ain't broke...

In case i have to punch, are the square carriage bolt holes on these decks a consistent size and, if so, anybody know what size? Yes, i have a ruler... but it is dark and I'm in a recliner.

I just use a 3/8 drill bit and the small end of a square file. Goes pretty quick.

I think 1/2 and 3/8 bolts are what is mostly used on the deck. Same for the whole tractor really...

I just moved the left side bracket for the rear deck wheels on my in-use junk deck inboard a couple inches to find some solid steel and did just that.  The first hole was a bear with my tiny little square file but on the second i used a 3/16 round chainsaw file to bite the corners first and that sped things up.  Probably 30 minutes of filing between the two holes but that should get me through this mowing season.   Thanks!

Esbrian  did you move the double pulley around or just get a longer belt? I've got a 5-42rk01 and would like to use it on my 417A
