My 656 spray rig is working so well I've been thinking of putting together another one. Assuming I could find a seller, I'd appreciate any input on shipping a stripped down machine minus engine and tires (and maybe minus wheels as well). I've never dealt with a pallet before, but with the trucking shortage, I was thinking it may be easier/cheaper to shipping it in pieces through UPS/FedEx/USPS. What do you think? Dayton Freight, Estes, Old Dominion, etc. Many people have used Fastenal for a shipping service too. This one, it was a pretty special circumstance. The shipper picked it up, sent it to a train yard in Chicago, then to a port in New Jersey, to the Netherlands, then to @Tractorhead Stables in Bavaria. I've shipped 4 or 5 transmissions by Fastenal and have had no problems. I think it would make a difference who you would want to ship with. Fastenal would go with what a trans weighs to determine cost. Some shipping places may go by size and weight. A horse, apart in a box, may be smaller then the real thing and stack better then a horse on a pallet. They are going to weigh, depending on the box, about the same. If you are talking about shipping different parts in different boxes in this country at different times...and a whole horse...(Remember the TV series Mash, when Radar was shipping home a Jeep...one piece at a time?) That is just crazy!! I have a bridge for sale on the Fox River you might be interested in. I would talk to different shipping companies, and see what they would like you to do to ship something and their costs for how you want to ship it. Fastenal, and they have their own pallets, is probably the cheapest way to go. You have to get the horse to them and you have to pick it up from the store you are shipping it to. You can call them and figure out the closest stores to and from. They do not do over night...they are filling up their truck. They ship from point "A" to a hub...to a main hub...to a hub...to point "B". It might take a week. They did a great job for me and you get what you pay for. If your Fastenal store says they don't ship...it is because they have not shipped. Talk to their web site, they will tell the store how they do it. Strap it to a pallet and send it as is........... Vurge 158 #11 Posted August 29, 2021 I was figuring that it might be easier to find someone to sell/ship a 6xx in pieces rather than whole just because most people (like me) haven't deal with freight before. As the buyer, I wouldich rather have an assembled machine! California just has such a limited number of garden tractors. I sent a palleted crate to Ireland recently (left in June, arrived in August) using a freight forwarder that specializes in US-Europe shipping. Truck pickup in my driveway and then to the port in NC, added to a container and then via ship to Rotterdam, another container to Dublin, then by truck to my brother's driveway. Weight was around 300 lbs. and cost was around $1,700 or so. The same crate last year would have been around $1,000--such is the crazy state of shipping these days. Price was tied directly maximum outer dimensions of the pallet + crate (46W x 40D x 38H--mine was 34H) and weight (200-500 lbs). Small extra cost for a crate that could not have another crate stacked on top. (Any other special handling like "highly fragile" or "weather-sealed container" would have cost even more).
