42" SD Deck Parts

Recommended Posts

Fordiesel69

Long and sad story but we are loosing our local toro / wheelhorse dealer due to the James T. Reason Swiss Cheese Model.

Anyways I scored a 42" bare deck shell in excellent condition and need to install new towers (spindles).  I beleive all other parts could be reused.  Is there a good place to buy from either online or by calling?  Prefer places that are reasonable, as some of the times my delaer was significantly cheaper then online.

Also is it worth me paying a welder to weld and bend the reinforcement round metal rod to the bottom front lip to prevent the deck from getting bent?  I know this is not the right terminology but i hope you know what I am saying.

If you have a lot of tree roots poking up the reinforcement bar is a must IMHO.

Send a PM to Brian @76c12091520h at K&B Horse Parts one of our vendors.  He can sell you complete used assemblies in good conditon for a reasonable price if he has them in stock.

If you're hitting stuff hard enough to bend the front of the deck, you're really gonna be hard on blades an spindles too...

Make sure you get spindles that use blades with a 3/4" center hole. The 5/8" x 3/4" double-D blades are getting hard to find if not impossible.

Small roots and such likely won't get past the reinforced lip of the front of the deck. I've caught mine mowing around a tree in spring that wasn't a clearance issue the year before. Point being- reinforcing the deck makes it strong enough for an obstacle to completely stop the tractor. Since the blades ride just a little higher that the front of the deck, it still offers some protection. Also- bending the lip back on an obstacle will likely bend a blade, break a belt, and possibly bend the spindle shaft. In addition, the blades may make a hole in the deck that will need repair. Extreme cases can warp the whole deck.

Of course it's possible to damage spindles and blades even when the deck is reinforced. But, the benefit outweighs not doing it.

I was thinking of instlling the reinforment rrod also to reduce the flexing which will crack / flake the paint more and cause rotting.
