Eye of Hurricane Henri forecasted to go over my house

Battening down the hatches today getting ready for tomorrow. It’s absolutely beautiful out now but it’s the calm before the storm.

I see they are talking 3 to 5 feet of rain.  :eusa-think:

I believe that’s 3-5 feet of storm surge, geez I hope not 3-5 feet of rain. It’s also a full moon so that will add to the high tides. Store shelves empty and long lines at every gas station.

If you go out side naked when the eye passes over, good fortune will befall you! :)

Storm surge makes more sense.  I just saw the numbers, had the TV on mute.  :notworthy:

Good luck.  Bad Moon Rising by CCR just played on the radio.  Seems appropriate to your situation.

We had the eye pass over us a few years back. Forget the storm's name. It's the one that went through Jersey. Anyway the eye passed at night. It was dark enough so no animals were harmed!

You'll be fine Don!  I'm mustering all my hurricane-fu to push him to the East.  Latest forecast from NHC seems to show it's working.

In any case, be safe my friend!  Bring the patio set inside!

Looks like we're in the 30-40 MPH zone here at the Joisey Shaw.

I am in a good spot here. Not to rain on anyone’s parade or anything but the storm is going so far west of us we are getting some rain and winds around 20-30 mph. Two days ago we were expecting 40-50mph winds. Glad that changed. Good luck to all of you who are more in the storm.

Once again the media blows it all out of proportion for the almighty ratings.

It did rain a lot last night but virtually no wind whatever.

AMC RULES

:angry-nono:  For the almighty dollar.

Heard the city news early this morning, telling Long Island residents to get your gas and empty the shelves now.  :snooty:

You guys are forgetting. Tropical storms have a mind of their own. They will turn, speed up slow down and even stop. This storm turned a bit east. It could of went west and went straight through NYC. The news stations get their info from the National Hurricane center. Yes they might dramatize it a bit. But would you rather have them say nothing will happen and then you get blasted? Be thankful we have a warning. Some countries are lucky to even have electricity BEFORE the storm hits.

All True...

I'll never forget Donna though.  They said she was coming and she sure did!  Very scary night.

But... If she had changed course, and not hit, she would be a mere footnote in history.  And forgotten.

So yeah, Henri will become a forgotten footnote.

The Joisey Shaw won't forget Donna or Sandy though!

Some of us may still remember 1938 too!  Not a lot of warning for that one!

Looks like we dodged a bullet, as the storm center went to the east of us. The center went between Montauk point and Block Island. We have received a decent amount of rain and wind but so far so good. It appears that to the west of me they are receiving substantially more rain and less wind. I got a few calls with the fire department, wires down etc, but luckily nothing major. Stephanie Abrams from The Weather Channel was out in Montauk, I did want to go see her 😜

clueless

So as someone who has lived with these thing all of my 67 years especially in the last 15 years, the one thing I can tell you for sure, take none of them lightly. Yes the news media and the weather media may hype them up some, but listen to them. If you live close to the ocean or gulf 40 miles or less then pay close attention to the wind speed, and less than 5 miles from the coast the title surge also if you live inland pay attention to the wind speed and rain fall, even a cat 1 hurricane can ruin your day or week or month. Not trying to scare anyone but after going through may tropical storms some cat 1 and 2 and 3 and possibly a small cat 4 depending on where you actually live, none are something to take lightly. So if you prepare for the worst and if not much happens you are FAR BETTER OFF than if  you did nothing and the damn thing came up your front door, been there done both.
