Shelter Logic for the classic truck & (?)

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

Finally took an afternoon to get the tarp garage put up over the truck.

We've been holding off because it isn't quite where I wanted it... But.... It's been a very wet summer and the truck does leak a bit. More rain coming in Sunday and Monday.

Maybe in the spring when the truck is going we'll move it over a foot or 3.

The shelter measures 13 x 20 at the floor with a high ceiling.

There'll be enough space beside the vehicle to park other things like a tractor or other yard equipment.

I plan on putting 4' LED lights overhead at some point.

It'll end up being the workshop of sorts for the truck.

I left the ends off for now. They'll be installed later in the fall.

Because the truck doesn't move we had to modify the construction process a skosh.

We built the top frame in the driveway and added 8 of 12 legs. We then moved the frame over the top of the truck to finish assembly.

Oh my young man...did I not teach you nothing? You obviously missed my posts about one of those. Shelter logic crap is just that.

I had the same one and it lasted 14 months. Yep 2 months out of a lousy one year warranty. Figured I got three years out didn't owe me anything. ..hrrump.

When I beefed to them about it they offered me 20 clams off on the better 900 clam cover. I says to the gal on the phone why would you even offer such junk? She didn't even have an answer,.  Hope you got the better cover yer gonna need it. I wouldn't  even recommend them to Squonky.

I was so fed up with them I $hitcanned the whole thing and saving my money for something permanent.

Sorry to rain on yer parade EB. I got alot more pics you want me to depress you somemore. Get off my :soapbox: now.

FYI EB they offer three different covers for that model. I most likely got the cheapest as it was around 500 some from Northern Tool. Here's the catch they don't offer the better covers unless aftermarket. Then drop trousers yer gonna get it.

Sorry again but you poured salt on an open wound here... after I had to move two tons of stove pellets by hand  and my prized tractors were left out in the rain.

Oh no no. No worries here bub.

From my (way too much) research every tarp shelter under 2 Gs is likely garbage.

I bought this p'tic'lar model specifically for the FRAME.

Once the cloth cover is gone I'll put a nice heavy duty tarp right over the top like my other one.

The smaller shelter we have the cover lasted less than a year and was full of perforations from sun damage.

All part of the plan....

Actually  the frame is fairly good EB ....the cover and  everthing else  is absolute garbage. I personally won't give shelter another plug nickel just cause they treated me like a moron, which I am BTW.  But still ... I wouldn't  buy ther product if they gave it free.  Just sayin.....

Jim, you should have had your WIFE call! :)

I don't think I would store a Tecky under one of those!

Wife bought one of ther green houses to get an early start on the garden. Once she moved the plants out I told her to remove the cover and store it away. She asked why and I said, "if you want to use it again next spring, do it!"

My biggest problem with any of these "tents" is that they sweat so bad inside. Looking back over my 5 year experience with one, I would never again put anything of value in a "tent" garage for any length of time.

Is that frame strong enough to be able to screw sheet metal to?  :scratchead:  Like you would use on a pole barn.  if you know of any lumber yards or contractors, sometimes you can get cover sheets from them at a lower price. ;)

Absolutely agreed. Our other one has a plastic floor liner.

This one will be ventilated.

I coulda put another tarp over it and yes Randy one could screw horzontal steel to it.... I was just so poed with it and the time I had in it save my money and energy for a pole shed.

Then lumber skyrocketed ....:banghead:

My parents bought me one off wayfair for like $500 last fall and it is still holding…knock on wood. it actually seems pretty solid. It’s got a ‘76 VW beetle and 2 WHs a shelf and a couple of tables. Not a bad deal, the only problem is when it rains the pavement below is wet so I can only stand. But it’s good to store stuff in for now at least. Mine is only a 10x20 but it does what I need it to.

Since Shelter Logic has mixed reviews, is their another brand of this type of shelter that anyone can suggest?  I'm looking for trailer and firewood storage.

I'm not sure what you paid for that, but these steel carports are everywhere here in FL and are dirt cheap. You can add panels later for side and ends if you go cheaper on the initial. The link is to a place in Maine.

The one that I have is a Sorara. The cover is pretty sturdy and the frame is good.

The steel one that @Zeek mentioned might not be a bad idea either.

I paid about $630 for this one. They're at $719 with a different part number listed now.

We'd love to have a metal sided building.

Here I'd have to have a building permit to make one which involves excavation and site work as well.

Would've been several thousand dollars to install.

My opinion.... For what it's worth. ...

My online and in person research shows to me it isn't so much the BRAND of shelter as it is the price point.

If one was to spend $2000 to $2500 or more the quality is exponentially better.

And..... At that point one could more easily lean towards the above mentioned metal carports with sides.

The first cover lasted about 6 months, tree limb ripped length whys.

Thay wanted over $900 for a new one.

Put up again , bolted all framing, anchoring cable 2ft in the ground . Lasted 3 day. :angry-banghead: 60 - 70 mph winds. Next day, frame bent and collapsed

Yikes!

The one I have is on blacktop so we used the concrete anchors they gave with the tent. Knock on wood no problems yet.
