The 1056 is a little Beast!

Recommended Posts

I bought a 1056 a couple of years ago and maybe did not respect the tractor as much as i should. The Raider 10 was still going strong and was my go to tractor. This one was on marketplace and 130 miles away, so i told the guy to please respect my long travel and wait for me and all that. He advertised it as a 12 horsepower and said it ran. It was a 10 and didn't.

I expressed my disappointment, and he immediately knocked the $200 ask down to 150.   He was also going to get it to start . He said he would, anyway

So the Mighty Cummins was commissioned for the rustlin' trip and the 1056 still did not start, but i figured the parts were worth that with a deck pulley that is very expensive, and he threw in the coil he bought to allegedly get it to start. I returned it for $25 with the receipt in the box, so now it is seeming like a bargain.

Now for the reason it is such a beast. The side drive on this thing has a short and readily available reasonably priced belt when compared to a mule drive pulley system out the front. The engagement lever hooks up very tightly as well. So long as you clean and lube the mower deck clutch that is spring activated, the thing will not burn belts or break anything. I had to mow a neglected yard that has not been mowed all year. The pattern was mow forward twenty feet, go in reverse to trim off the remainders, and she took that stuff right down. After the opening cut, half passes kept the cuttings from plugging the mower. The engine did fine pulling that load [42" SD] especially when you consider that is a 4 speed transmission. It might use a bit of oil, but all in all, a solid runner.  I am not finding bargains like this any longer, maybe due to the new riding mower shortage

I found one. A repowered 607 “non-running” the guy said. Got it home and had it running in 20 minutes. He was asking $250 I paid $150.

Nice…..seems like the only “deals” I come across lately are for things like clapped out 200 series tractors with the vertical shaft motors.  No interest from me there. Either that, or it comes with more accessories than I want to deal with currently. I keep seeing good deals on snow blowers and plows.  Makes me not want to be buy a package deal because I don’t want to be stuck with large heavy stuff I can’t sell.  I’ve been patiently waiting for something to take over my daily tractor needs so I can pull my trusty 314-8 out of service and do a proper tear down/clean up on it. Trying to talk my buddy out of a raider 10 he has sitting in his barn, as it’s just collecting dust.  Pretty sure I’ll end up with it for a case of beer at some point
