squonk 41,039 #51 Posted August 21, 2021 Again, when I started at the hospital we had a great CEO and VP of operations. A lot of co-workers used to complain about them all the time but they where awesome. They would take time to stop and chew the fat during lunch or in the hall. they wanted to know what the heck was going on. They put up with my nonsense all the time. The VP got a kick of my revolving emergency light on my tool cart.! When they retired the Admin staff tried to insulate the new CEO. all the managers would sugarcoat stuff all the time. The hospital was starting a 50 million dollar expansion project and the boss wanted to know the nitty gritty of what they had to work with in the old bldg. I got called to his office. I was thinking Why was the CEO calling me for. I figured some manager complained about something but he said what does this bldg need? He was shocked when I rattled off stuff he didn't have a clue about. Quite a few changes were made partly from what I knew being on the floors every day. What worked and what didn't. The biggest thing that could happen to healthcare was single rooms. The debate was on on how important customer satisfaction score impacted insurance reimbursement. We had semi annual financial meetings with admin and hospital staff. Many staff members wanted money spent on salaries and not all of these private rooms. I had just returned to work from my heart attack. I had spent my first night in the hospital in a private room. The next day I was transferred to a big city hospital for a angioplasty and spent the night in a double room so small you couldn't change your mind in it. It was awful. I stood up and told my story. The administration staff was very appreciative me being so candid. If you have a bad experience at any healt care facility don't take it out on the staff. Call or write a letter to someone in charge. Don't be a jack wagon about it. But state your case. You would be surprised what the higher ups don't know and how enlightened they will be when they hear some real world facts. Are they over booking? Are they short staffed? They need to know. Directors and managers will hide issues to get their bonus if their department comes in under budget. I'd bet the next patient after me had to wait longer because the doctors and nurses were probably LTFAO for a while. Went in for an emergency surgery to remove my appendix. I was totally unprepared at the time and have a bunch of excuses for not being manscaped. Some poor soul had to shave that entire area and went down just to the top of the ......... and left the rest alone. When I got home later that day and took a look down there, It looked like Larry from the 3 stooges or maybe Einstein! ACman 7,618 #56 Posted August 22, 2021 Try living in a hospital for four months . I have some horror stories . I was a lucky one and had a private room due to my loud snoring . When I had a issue I just called patient relations and made my complaint. Skip past the nurse manager and floor manager. They sure got their act together real quick just mentioning patient relations . I also had a very good doctor that was always behind, even waited 5hrs for my appointment . When I finally got to see him he explained that his previous patient wanted to commit suicide . I totally understand why he was so late . I always made my appointments 3 and 6 months in advance. He’d always give you all his time that you needed just like the patient before me . My new doctor is very punctual and you better be there on time and he wants you out so the next person doesn’t have to wait . Many medical providers have started a patient rating system and after 3 bad ratings patients get “Fired”. They also have a system tied with pharmacies to track “Drug Seeking “ patients and “Fire” them too. So as @squonk says mind your manners. While your rating them, their now rating YOU! I always stayed with her 24 hrs a day since you could never get a nurse , nurse would deliver wrong drugs , food was CRAP. There were a couple of things I could not believe . One night while handling bed pan duty , some liquid spilled on the pee pad. Nurse finally showed up , I explained what happened, she smelled the spot on the pad. This past May she had to have an MRI . She could barely walk , no wheel chairs at the entrance . We hobbled along , until a nice young man from food service found her a chair. We made to the correct department only to find out the MRI machine had been moved to another building 1/8 mile away. No one mentioned that to me before hand( no cards , no letters, no telephone calls) . I am so glad I get to go to the VA hospital here. 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ohiofarmer 3,265 #60 Posted August 25, 2021 (edited) Once, after surgery and a short stay, Nurse ratchet, first name LaWanda shows up large and in charge to check me out of the hospital. I remind her that there is still a port for whatever juice they think I might have needed, and got chewed out and that she was in charge. So as I was crossing the threshold to get in the car, I told the orderly that I guess I might need to come back later to get the port removed. Hilarity ensued and I told them to check my chart to see if LaWanda ever told anybody to pull out the port??. When the PA guy came to remove it , he asked why I waited so long. They have a tough job dealing with hundreds of people a day. I spent a day at a different hospital system doing pre op for my neck surgery last June. I saw more people walk into that office all miserable because they had an appointment in the middle of the day and how inconvenient it was for them. Well they left the office the same way they came in, with a burr in their saddle. I go thru my CT scan and the tech was flustered because the patient before me gave her a hard time. I told her don't worry about it I've seen it all before and we had a nice talk about the scan dye procedure and we even joked about it. Then I had to wait 3 hours before my next appointment there. Same thing more miserable people in the waiting room. Missing their soap opera's, their golf games ect. My appt was 45 min late. Doctors and staff have to process patients, LISTEN TO patients, put in drug orders ect. Some take longer than others In all I spent 5 hours there. Left with a smile on my face.
