Where to get 36" replacement tiller tines

Recommended Posts

Hello All

Finally found and purchased a C-161 complete with mower deck and 36" tiller assembly  WOW! Can't believe I found this so close to home about a 45 min. drive . Been  searching for several years now from the west coast (to the eastern states for entertainment)

it's in rough cosmetic shape, paint is badly weathered, but every thing is there. The only badly worn parts are the tiller tines.

I looked on the TORO web site and the left and right side tine assemblies are available for over $500 ea.

Is there an aftermarket alternative available some where?

Congrats on your purchase!  Don’t hold me to this, but I seem to recall Lincoln at @A-Z Tractor was selling new tines?  Maybe @76c12091520hhad them?

@ecsi635j , wow , is that thing used up ! think I would try and get a complete gear drive set up , there isn't  an inch of that that does not need help. that gear unit is probably loaded with bearing debris shellac used to be gear oil . you might luck out on this site for parts , but also look on line , for similar parts . just asking on , amazon etc , should bring up something , good luck on that pete

I've seen walk be hind tillers 50 years old with good tines. Almost every WH tiller I see the tines are destroyed! :confusion-confused:

To much powwa

my experience: when on very hard compacted dirt, a walk behind drives over the dirt instead of digging in. a WH is harder to push for sure when in gear, and therefor has to eat into the dirt

Look on eBay for a nice set.  Sit down before checking the price.

I had a machine shop build mine for a lot less than that it has been several years ago but worth checking into.

My god he must've been tilling a paved street or something!

Still- you did good on saving another tractor. Tillers come up for sale still, so you'll probably find what you need.

Depending on how much fabricating you want to do- you may find another brand of tines that can be made to work. Mine came from an old Ford LGT tiller. The individual tines were identical, just not the carrier.

I just may have to  go the machine shop/fabricated tine shaft  route and maybe find some appropriately sized  current production tines.

Possibly reuse the original tine shafts and have a machine shop cut off the worn tines and maybe have square cut flanges welded to the original shaft??

just a thought, still sounds like and costly route to take. or even the feasibility of such an under taking

Might wanna check with A to Z in the vendor section. They were making them a while back.

That is the guy selling on eBay.  Buying direct might be better as he won't have to pay the fees.
