Carrot platinum 7 #1 Posted August 17, 2021 Hello all! I picked up my first wheel horse last tuesday. I rode it all around the local threshing show and absolutely adored it. It came with a plow, cultivator, deck and snowblower. It also came with the service manual, brochures and dealer service manuals for all the attachments. I paid a grand for it, i think it was worth it. Im here today asking for help identifying what i need to get the deck mounted and operational, along with the snow blower. I think i need some sort of mount on the front for the blower, and a mid mount mule drive for the deck? It looks like it might be missing more but i dont have the knowledge. Can anyone here lead me in the right direction on what i need? Thanks guys! Im gonna post a multitude of pictures.
Herder 2,354 #8 Posted August 17, 2021 First things first, welcome to I would say you may have a combination of thing there. At first glance, I was thinking you have a 1970 Charger. The deck is missing the carrier and belt retaining system. Others will be along to assist.
Carrot platinum 7 #9 Posted August 17, 2021 I sure hope so! Im so lost. Would it be worth the effort to track down parts for the deck? Or should i convert it to a front tachomatic system and get a newer deck?
pfrederi 17,676 #10 Posted August 17, 2021 The snow blower has had several modifications. Based on having hole in the end of the mount I would guess it would bolt to the front of you r tractor frame. However measure to make sure. Two pics attached, one uses a bolt through the frame. the other a more modern tachmatic. Deck will need the side mount hardware. Pic 3/4 if you want to go tachmatic you have options. One would be a period correct front mule drive that bolts to the frame pic 5 or a front tachmatic adapter 6 1
8ntruck 6,991 #11 Posted August 18, 2021 to the forum. Bunch of good folks here. Somebody will be along soon with an answer. You said that a bunch of service manuals came in the deal. Do any of them include exploded diagrams and parts lists? Thac will lead you to Wheel Hoerse part numbers, which will be useful in identifying what you have and what you might need. Good luck and have fun.
Ed Kennell 38,029 #12 Posted August 18, 2021 Paul has you pretty well covered. That 42" deck shell looks really nice. If the spindle bearings are good, I would be inclined to look for the mounting supports and use the deck. They are readily available as usually the deck shells rot away. I would go to a modern front mount attach-a-matic and front mule drive as shown in Pauls last picture. This would work fine, but you may have to measure for the deck drive belt as this is would not be a factory arrangement. The blower appears to have been used on a tractor with out a PTO clutch. The chain could probably be replaced with a spring and used for the belt tensioner. The tensioner pulley has to be on the bottom loop of the drive belt. The blower has the frame mount now, but if you go to a front attach-a-matic, the mount can easily be altered to work by welding in a 3/4" rod that fits in the attach-a-matic. 1
roadapples 6,983 #13 Posted August 18, 2021 Totally agree with Ed. Especially on the deck. So much easier to remove and replace... And.
Carrot platinum 7 #14 Posted August 18, 2021 Thanks for all the info guys. I cant figure out how to respond to each post so bear with me. The manuals dont include the deck i have, the manuals are for a 94 deck.... so the parts blow up is useless. Does anyone have the part number for what i need for the deck. And does anyone have a part number or a libk for the tach o matic i would need for the from end of my tractor? I would take the time to research, and i have been trying to, but there is just so much conflicting info and opinions, its left me severly lost! Also, one guy mentioned getting an attach o matic AND a front mule drive. I though those were the same thing in one. I didnt know they were two seperate things. This investment is turning into a headache! But i will do whatever to take to make it all functional.

I see Garry has posted manuals for your blower and deck. This should help you find part numbers. There is a mid and a front attach-a-matic. The mid is used to attach the deck to the tractor. The front attach-a-matic (not on your tractor now) is used to mount the mule drive when using the deck. The mule drive is removed when mounting the snow blower. on the front attach-a-matic. The mule drive is a two pulley bracket that is used to guide the belt from the horizontal engine PTO to the vertical center drive pulley on the deck and to keep tension on the belt. Your tractor and the deck is designed to use a side drive and an older swing arm drive and belt tensioner. Since you do not have these parts, I am recommending you go to the modern front mule drive and attach-a-matic. Look thru the manuals of your tractor and the deck and blower manuals Garry has supplied. A lot of your confusion will probably be cleared up. I will find the front tach o matic for the deck and locate the mounting bracket for the deck. I will do anything to get it all working.... modern mowers can frigg off, so lame and generic. Im super pumped to use the plow and cultivator in the garden. Thanks for the help and manuals guys! 1
daveoman1966 3,745 #18 Posted August 18, 2021 (edited) AS TO THE 42" MOWER DECK: I agree with everyone here... In addition, your deck will need the missing LIFT BAR--- #21 in schematic. The parts you need for this UPGRADE ---i.e., Front Tach-o-Matic hitch, Front Mule Drive, and Mid Tach-O-Matic hitch (optional) ---can be had by several of the members on Red Square. daveoman1966 3,745 #19 Posted August 18, 2021 More on UPGRADE TO TACH-O-MATIC: upgrade your mower deck belt drive system to the Front Mule Drive by installing a 'Tach-O-Matic' Front Hitch as shown in this .pdf file. It shows how to drill 3 holes in the Hood Hinge Plate to attach a Front Tach-O-Matich hitch without needing the Adapter Bracket. Here is the .pdf file on that. Pullstart 62,807 #21 Posted August 18, 2021 I have a rusted deck I pulled off a similar model that’ll never go back on. With that said, I should have everything you need to get it going again.

peter lena 8,587 #24 Posted August 19, 2021 @daveoman1966, referring to the attatch a matic opportunity , done this on my three units , detail the hell out of them ( if you want to ) . pop off those bearing side shields and hi temp grease them , for quiet no failure operation, lubricate all adjustment threading , even out the adjustment side support to the threaded barrel nut. go to a shorter drive belt , so your belt adjustment is at the start of the , swing arc , reducing belt bounce , mine is at snug shortly after engaging it . just a change over the regular set up , pete

How long do you think the setup would last if properly lubricated and maintained?
