2 Cycle Shindaiwa Power Broom. Bristle vs paddle?

Recommended Posts

So I scored a nice used PB280 power broom that had a failed carb.  Its got only the round bristle drums with no way to install the paddles unless I upgrade the gear box.

I was wondering if anyone knows what the pros and cons are for the paddles vs bristle?  Is one more desirable?

I've only seen one of these in action at a neighbor's place a couple doors down being used by their landscape and never used one myself.

The worker told me he originally kept two gear heads (one for broom and one for paddle) and switched them in about 5 minutes. The next year he just bought another unit to stop switching and to also have a backup.

I've seen him use the paddles on places with caked leaves. I've seen him using the broom on concrete and stone sidewalks, the pavement/Belgian block driveway, and the grass (moving leaves near the shrubbery and flower beds where a blower would scatter the mulch or damage the plantings).

I have a paddle attachment for my Echo PAS. it does an amazing job on winter sand on the edge of my lawn!
