JUSS10 250 #1 Posted August 15, 2021 Recently picked up an old mackissic chipper/shredder with the intention of converting it to 3pt for my kubota. Well I started looking it over and frankly got impatient to build the 3pt setup so I adapted it to my 1054. I know they made these for later model tractors in the 70s and on but never saw one on a 1054. Worked out pretty easy actually. The 1054 outside frame width is 8” and the inside width of the chipper is 9. I took two pieces of bar stock that were 1/2” thick and made a “H” bracket by welding them together with a piece of 1x1 tubing. It bolts to the front of the frame and to the back of the chipper no issue. Next I needed to figure out belt routing. Had a mower deck for a 1054 I wasn’t using so I grabbed the two idler pulleys off that. The grooved one I bolted in to the side of the grill piece where there was already a hole. The flat pulley I mounted to a piece of flat stock and welded that to a sleeve bushing that ties to the H bracket with a bolt. Finally I used a spring pulled back to the frame under the engine to keep tension. thw whole setup works surprisingly well with little effort. I still may make it 3pt to have the added horse power but thought I’d share it. 9 8 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That said, I needed something on the top to pull the belt down a little as it was wanting to rub on the side of the grill housing. may have to add a fixed flat pulley on top to keep it down and then a tensioner on the bottom as well. this was a “toss it together with what I have” sort of deal. JUSS10 250 #7 Posted August 19, 2021 Yeah we’ve done two 4x8 utility trailer loads with it so far. Makes a pretty fine mulch with the 1 inch screen in it. Input speed depends on the type of wood. Soft woods it'll take 3.5" diameter easily almost as fast as one can push it in. Harder species is what we have for the most part. Birches, beech, rock/red/swamp maple, sugar maple, and red or white oak. Been thinking about mounting on my Charger. More HP, easier to move, plenty of yard hugging weight for ballast. The brackets will take some thought. Now just need to get off my butt. Best to All of You, Carl I have a bracket for my Mackissic chipper currently mounted on the front of a C series. I have another bracket on the shelf that was on a John Deere and I may eventually be modifying that for usage on a Horse. Best to All of You, Carl I have, and really like, a Troy-bilt.The PO never cleaned the cooling fins on the 5 hp Tecumseh and it came to me ruined. I re-engined it with a 6.5 hp B&S (bought cheap from a guy who forgot to put oil in his pressure washer pump--he just shrugged and bought a whole new washer). It would make an interesting project to power it off a tractor PTO. One immediate concern is the rotation--on mine, the Tomahawk's driven pulley turns clockwise when you face it. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
