They are goodyear 23x10.5x12. I plan to leave it for now with the patina look. I will clean it up as best I can though of course so it's not dirty. Initial assessment is I think the trans is fine as it goes through all ranges and gears fine...the engine has no compression but I don't hear any odd sounds coming from it when I spin it by hand... Hoping it's a stuck valve...the clutch pedal is stuck pretty good. Has no muffler so may be searching for one or fabricating a cheap one to fit. This will be fun to dive into though. peter lena 8,634 #10 Posted August 15, 2021 @OutdoorEnvy very nice steal on that ! referring to patina saving , my own experience , is a very simple aerosol lubricating spray down , just do that, nothing elaborate , just let it soak into the metal . after the wet look starts to dull , wipe it down with a clean cloth . following day do it again . if you wipe it down at all ,wipe down till dry , that's it , you have fed the metal and stopped the rust . peter lena 8,634 #12 Posted August 15, 2021 @OutdoorEnvy, transmission service is for a manual trans is rather simple , verify the condition of the existing " fluid " , usually milky and a watery rusty combination . jack up front end off ground to enhance drainage , get a new shift boot , this not a one and done service. I personally would use fuel oil or atf fluid , the cheapest , but fresh you can find . once refilled , you should drive it and use it , best on empty road , use every gear / range , especially reverse . regularly check dip stick for color change / condition . remember you are flushing out neglect , done mine at least a couple of times , before the oil ,holds its look, then finish with a 75-95 gearoil . just my own experience . remember this is not a quick oil change , its an oil cleaning flush out , and fresh refill . trans should work smooth and easy , also LUBRICATE RELATED CLUTCH LINKAGE , NO RUST , JUST GREASE AT ALL MOVEMENT POINTS . this is my own experience , and works well , pete 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The sheet-metal was in excellent shape but the paint was faded and it had surface rust here and there. I took 0000 steel wool and Windex to the entire machine to clean it and then I used matte clear coat on everything. It doesn’t attract dust and it will last for years. Also, if you need a touch up just get the old spray can out and give it a couple of shots and it blends perfectly even years later. I like the look because it doesn’t give you a shiny/Rusty look. It looks exactly the same after I cleaned it as it did before so it has not affected the patina at all and that’s how I like it. First two pictures are right after I cleaned it up and put some new decals on it in the last two or how it works now, years later. Then using rubbing compound to clean up the paint. Then clear coating with matte. peter lena 8,634 #16 Posted August 15, 2021 @RichJ, done a number of aerosol lubrication spray down's to save paint. never remove anything of it , just spray it down and let it set , the existing paint gets dark with the lubrication feed . moisture will instantly bead up on it . its the second coat of spray lubricant , that I rub down till dry , you will probably start to see a paint sheen . if you do not want to increase shine at that point , just regularly rub it down with aerosol lubricant , rub till dry . at that stage , I have used a 6" hand buffer , and car paint cleaner , on that dry oiled finish , and had the paint come right back , its the oil feed that really feeds that old paint. do that a couple of times with the buffer, and it looks like new paint ! did 2 of my horses like that , they looked like a garbage can , when i got them , that shinny paint now , looks very deep and solid . if you don't want to do the whole thing , just recover the rear fender area, and go from there , all 3 of mine have been buffed clean , and are easy to keep that way , easy to try , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

All the stuff that I’ve purchased new or almost new still looks new 40 or 50 years later because I kept it inside and that’s all you really need to keep your paint looking fresh. My 30 year old pick up truck has never had anything more than hand washing and it still looks like the day it rolled off the assembly line. When I get an old tractor from somebody else who did not keep it inside and it’s faded, I like to retain that patina look. The matte finish will keep that patina look without introducing an artificial shine. And, if kept inside the paint will never need anything else done to it if you protect it with the matte clearcoat. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

OutdoorEnvy 1,522 #22 Posted August 16, 2021 I pulled the head and the piston is not moving. It was at the top and it had no rattle or anything. I pushed it down some and it felt really smooth. The cylinder walls look clean. my guess is probably a broke connecting rod. The camshaft seems good as both valves worked fine. So this project will slow up a bit. I'll probably start a new thread when I get around to it. Head looked pretty clean though of carbon, etc. Wasn't really any build up. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
