roadapples 6,983 #1 Posted August 14, 2021 This comes up pretty often. The locking bolts in the axle hub should be torqued to 28-32 ft lb. Most know you can't do that with a 3" wrench. If you have an eight point socket, great. I don't. Not sure I've ever seen one. I use a 3/8" hex head socket 3/8" drive. I put the 3/8 drive end on the square head of the bolt and use a 3/8" socket on my torque wrench... 3 9 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,050 #2 Posted August 15, 2021 Brilliant solution. I often use a deep nut to make the connection between the sockets. Garry
kpinnc 12,111 #3 Posted August 15, 2021 All this time I thought anything to deal with hubs and wheels used hillbilly torque. ... it's measured in grunts. 1
ebinmaine 67,672 #4 Posted August 18, 2021 Excellent solution Mr Apples. I do have (3) sizes of 8 point sockets bought specifically for set screws. Wish I'd thought of this trick!!
WheelHorse520H 708 #5 Posted August 22, 2021 Gotta admit @roadapples, that’s pretty darn smart. Good to keep in mind. 1
