Jimbob 5 #1 Posted August 10, 2021 My grandpa had a wheel horse tractor that I learned to drive when I was 4. My grandpa died in 1992 and the tractor went to a relative that I’ve lost contact with. I am looking to find the same model, I have no clue what the model was because of my age, but can give a description if someone can help me identify what it might be. It would have been manufactured before 1982, hydrostatic, hydraulic deck lift, to engage the mower it had a rod on the right side that slid back and forth, the rod had a white ball on the end, choke and throttle were up by steering wheel, the hood was red (not black), and had a black latch to lift the hood. I’ve probably described about 20 different models, but could definitely pick it out from a pic if someone could help thanks 3
daveoman1966 3,745 #2 Posted August 10, 2021 (edited) Here is a Charger 12 . Auto, hyd lift, PTO rod lever, well before 1982. There are LOTS of tractors to fit your description... Edited August 10, 2021 by daveoman1966

Jimbob 5 #4 Posted August 10, 2021 Thanks. I was leaning toward the charger. I’m thinking the manufacture year had to be mid 70’s. I’m combing my photos looking for a pic of it

Stepney 2,325 #7 Posted August 10, 2021 If the rod slides back and forth with a ball on the end, it's a 65-73. Think hydro lift came on the long frame Hydro in 1966 though. Would have a PTO so that rules out any short frame hydro. After 73 the PTO would be a lever with a black grip that pushed toward the hood. Sounds to me like you are describing an old Charger 12. Maybe a Bronco 14 too.. did it have a stripe on the hood? Pre-67 had no footboards, just the pegs. Pictured in the previous post is a 68-69 Charger already, after 1970 the body got more squared like this one. Hydro lift was optional, cant find a photo of one with one to save my life..
Gregor 4,846 #8 Posted August 10, 2021 (edited) You can go here, pick your year, and see pics of most Wheel Horse tractors. https://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/tractor-brands/wheelhorse/wheelhorse-lawn-tractors.html Year of manufacture is not in order by the way. The C-160 would be my choice. 1

WheelHorse520H 708 #18 Posted August 11, 2021 One thing you could do, (I don’t know how close your family is with the person that got it) is see if anyone in your family has contact with whoever got the tractor. Just a thought. Pictures would also be a huge help in identifying your grandpa’s wonderful machine. Good luck.
