312-h test switch help

Recommended Posts

Guys need help. I have a 1991, 312-h, model 5112KE01

Doing a complete restoration on this tractor as a gift for my grandson. The previous owners  cut and splice wires, and generally did some half ass repairs. Restoring the tractor to like new or better condition. What I am stuck on is the test light. The test light has three black wires going into a 3 push pin connector. Where the pin connector connects to, I don't know. I have the demystification and wire schematics from this site. But I need help with this.

The PO cut the gray wire (last photo) and spliced a red line to the black wire on the test switch. (center photo)  The other black wire was broken off the test switch (first photo).

I can buy a used test switch on ebay that has the three black wires into a push pin. My question is , what wires go into the test switch 3 pin connector? The gray wire? the red wire ?

Three wires from the test switch connect to what other three wires?

Thanks

I believe this is the test switch you have

The common should be powered by the red wire that powers the ignition switch and is not switched. It is alive when the ignition is off.

The push button switch should power the grey wire when it is closed and that lights up the board.

Two wires is all that should be required.

The switch got missed in the Demystification Guide. It is illustrated in the diagram in the operator manual.

Found a picture of the switch. It came with 3 wires and the connector. Added it to the switch page posted above.
